[edit] Public/State

In South Africa, the the words public and state are, in casual conversation, used interchangeably but independent schools are completely private and are not the same as public schools. If one is to seriously look at the difference between the first two words, state would imply solely funded by the government while public is semi-funded by the government. In the case of Jeppe High School for Boys, the word public should be used as the school is in fact semi-privatized due to the presence of a governing body and does not receive all funding directly from the government. In fact only a small percentage of what is needed to run the school is in fact provided by the government.

[edit] Who remembers Alec Marcus ?

My father, Alec Marcus, graduated from Jeppe in 1936. This April,(2007), we will be celebrating his 90th birthday. If anyone can submit pictures , names or anything about "the old boys" , I would greatly appreciate it. You can reach me at: ronnymarcus@012.net.il . Thanks again !
