Jens-Peter Bonde

Jens-Peter Bonde (born on 27 March 1948 in Aabenraa) is a Danish politician and Member of the European Parliament with the Junibevægelsen party. He is co-chairman of the Independence and Democracy group in the European Parliament, with UKIP's Nigel Farage, and sits on the Committee on Constitutional Affairs. He is a substitute member of the Committee on Budgetary Control.
He frequently appears in the media to comment on EU affairs.
Jens-Peter Bonde emerged from the Danish Left of the 1970s, however he has been on the centre-left for most of the past three decades, in a bid towards a more democratic and transparent European Union. In November 2005 he was the inspiration behind the setting up of a new Party at a European level, EUDemocrats.
Mr Bonde has written about 50 books in Danish on the EU, including "reader-friendly" editions of several EU treaties (for "reader-friendly" EU Constitution see: EUABC.com). In advance of the 2004 enlargement of the European Union, he also worked on translations of the EU treaties into the languages of the acceding member states. Mr Bonde has also written 5 books in English.

On the 25th of March 2008, Bonde announced his retirement from the European Parliament[1]. Bonde intends to spend more time encouraging the growth of parties similar to the June Movement in the rest of Europe and building the EUDemocrats. He will also be working for referendums on the Treaty of Lisbon. Bonde resigned his seat on the 9th of May 2008. He was replaced by Hanne Dahl, who was placed second on the June Movement's candidate list in the 2004 election[2].
