Jenoptik is a specialist in photonic and mechatronic technologies and one of the market and technology leaders in selected areas. The international Group concentrates on its core areas of expertise of lasers/optics, optoelectronics and mechatronics. Jena, Thuringia, Germany.

Jenoptik develops, manufactures and markets optical, optoelectronic and mechatronic system solutions, facilities as well as components and modules. Its worldwide clients mainly include companies in the global semiconductor and semiconductor equipment manufacturing industry, automotive and automotive supplier industry, medical technology, security and defense technology, the aerospace industry, technology companies and the public sector.
Jenoptik has 3,400 employees and in 2007 generated sales of 522 million euros. The Group was created in 1991 out of JENOPTIK Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH. Since June 1998 JENOPTIK AG has been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The Jenoptik Group headquarters are in Jena, with additional major sites in Germany located in Wedel near Hamburg, Monheim and Ratingen near Düsseldorf, Villingen-Schwenningen, Triptis, the Bavarian town of Altenstadt as well as Essen. Outside Germany Jenoptik is represented in nearly 70 countries and has production sites in France, Switzerland and the USA.
Dr. Michael Mertin has been the Chairman of the Executive Board of JENOPTIK AG since July 1, 2007. He is responsible for the entire operational business as well as for the areas of strategy and innovations, auditing, data protection, communication and marketing, IT, quality and processes and, as Human Resources Director, for personnel.
The group can trace its heritage back to the original Carl Zeiss company, founded in Jena in 1846. Following World War II, the East German authorities established Kombinat VEB Zeiss Jena, while the main Zeiss company had relocated to West Germany. Following German reunification, VEB Zeiss Jena became Zeiss Jena GmbH, then JENOPTIK Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH, before the name was shortened to Jenoptik AG.
The JENOPTIK trademark is owned by Jenoptik AG and is used by Concord Camera under license from Jenoptik AG for non-professional consumer imaging products.
