Jenny Wiley Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Jenny Wiley Stakes is a American Thoroughbred horse race run at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky in the early spring of the year. The Grade IIT turf event is for four-year-olds and older fillies and mares, and is set at a distance of one and one-sixteenth of a mile.
The Jenny Wiley Stakes, named for Jenny Wiley, a pregnant pioneer woman captured in Kentucky by Native Americans in 1789 and who escaped after almost a year in captivity, offers a purse of $200,000.
In 2005, the race was upgraded from a Grade IIIT to a Grade IIT for the time being. The Jenny Wiley will be in its 21nd running in 2009.
In 1998 the race was set at a distance of 1 and ½ miles.
Thrilling Day (running in 1997) holds the race record at 1:41 flat.
