Jennings is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 15,469 at the 2000 census. It is a historically significant African American community.

Jennings is located at 38°43′16″N, 90°15′41″W (38.721100, -90.261428)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.7 square miles (9.6 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 15,469 people, 6,174 households, and 4,081 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,193.3 people per square mile (1,618.6/km²). There were 6,798 housing units at an average density of 1,842.8/sq mi (711.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 19.32% White, 78.58% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 1.40% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.

There were 6,174 households out of which 35.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 29.2% were married couples living together, 31.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.12.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.4% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 79.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 72.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $29,196, and the median income for a family was $33,761. Males had a median income of $28,697 versus $25,013 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,820. About 16.0% of families and 19.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 28.3% of those under age 18 and 14.6% of those age 65 or over.
