[edit] Career
Wester began her career as a shooter and over her career, she has won eight national titles in silhouette rifle marksmanship. She began skating as cross-training for shooting, but eventually changed her focus to skating.
Wester competed on the junior level with Jonathan Harris. After Barantsev moved to the United States, he and Wester were teamed up by their then-coach, Nikolai Morozov.
Although Wester and Barantsev had done well on the national level, they were unable to compete internationally until the 2007/2008 season because the Russian federation refused to give Barantsev a release. He finally obtained it in 2007 and they began representing the United States internationally later that year.
