Jennifer Vanasco (born 1971 in Rockville Centre, New York) is an award-winning syndicated columnist for the gay press and a former theater critic for the Chicago Reader.

After graduating from Wellesley College in 1994, Vanasco worked for the gay paper Windy City Times in Chicago and eventually became a freelance writer, publishing work in the Chicago Tribune, the Advocate, the Chicago Reader, the Progressive Media Service, TimeOut Chicago and the now defunct Girlfriends magazine.

She is a member of the Independent Gay Forum and her work has also appeared in the anthologies "I Do, I Don't: Queers on Marriage," and "Reading the 'L' Word." Her column has been running weekly since its debut in Windy City Times in 1996 (it now runs in the Chicago Free Press) and won three Peter Lisagor Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists' Chicago Headline Club.

Vanasco, who now lives in New York, writes about travel,social and political issues relevant to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders, including gay marriage, gays in the military, and gay social life. Her columns on gender and transgender issues have generated controversy in the queer blogosphere, and her expansive view of marriage rights has drawn fire from more conservative gay rights groups.
