[edit] Notability?

I'm a little troubled by the question of whether Velocci is notable. The basic gist of the AfD discussion was that his accomplishments (WWE developmental deal, indy wrestling career) did not meet the guidelines for WP biographies. I think we could agree that his teaching career and wrestling fandom do not do anything for notability. New York Wrestling Connection and Ohio Championship Wrestling, which appear to be where he's done the bulk of his indy work, don't even have their own WP articles, so that seems troubling for notability as well. I don't think that the sources here overcome that--yes, he is the subject of some articles, but they're in the genre of "fluff piece in his college's alumni magazine" or mentions from wrestling news websites, only one of which, Wrestling Observer, is a major publication.

I'm not going to go ahead with an AfD nomination for now, mostly because I don't see a ton of harm in, for now, having a decent, well-sourced article on somebody who is probably not notable. However, the problem could come up if this sets the bar too low and inspires a large number of articles on not-yet-notable wrestlers. Croctotheface (talk) 06:49, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
