[edit] Hanneman? Hannemann?
When doing a bit of stuff on houseofnames.com, I searched for Hanneman, and Hanneman is apparently an Irish name? But Hannemann with the double n is German/Dutch origin, so I'm wondering how you actually spell Hanneman(n)'s name.
62.56.34.169: "but like fellow guitarist Kerry King, Hanneman dismisses people who refer to him as a Nazi. His grandfather is actually from Germany, and although his grandmother prevented German from being spoken in the household, Jeff's father still speaks with a slight German accent."
You make this sound like you know Hannemans family, but in the same edit you write that he had a brother in Bloodcum called John, the only John in Bloodcum was John Araya (the real brother of Tom Araya). There was a hoax about Joey Fuchs (the drummer) being Hannemans brother but even that info is false, please provide sources for your above claims if you want them back in the article.
[edit] Comparison with King
Is Hanneman's guitar work glossed over because he's the rhythm? Or simply because KK is so much more of a "front man" compared to Jeff? As far as I can recall, the two guitarists share leads in many songs - much the same way that all three guitarists in Maiden get a go in different songs. IainP (talk) 10:39, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] king and Hanneman
id have to say that hanneman is a better player than king just the way its shown through the solos... king does alot more squealling and longer held notes with his whammy bar while meanwhile hanneman is pure shredding but besides thier soloing abilities or that which is shown i think theyre both equally fast guitarists especially when it comes to rythm shown on almost every track (especially raining blood)
[edit] Hanneman tasteful???
"Jeff's style of shredding is considered some of the more tasteful and more technically orientated guitar work in thrash metal in general. He definitely attracts a lot more attention than his dueling partner, Kerry King, who is characterised by high speed shreds with little to no taste whatsoever."
this sounds like somebody's opinion, as i have not heard anybody mention his tastefullness. his approach seems identical to kings: pointless notes as fast as possible, combined with whammy like there's no tomorrow. take this section out.
[edit] Some suggestions for improving this article.
I saw this article listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment while I'm not a member of that project (so I'll let them come to review it officially), I have some suggestions for how this article could be improved towards the stated goal of GA class.
There seems to be a lot of focus in the article on just the Angel of Death controversy. There seems to be undue weight on what really is a small part of his career. Any direct mention of his interest in studying Nazi Germany could probably all be moved to a single segment. As the article currently stands there are few segments that fail to mention the word Nazi in them somewhere. There are also gaps that could be filled. Have there been an issues with other band members during the years, or has he made an quotes on the strength of their friendship? Slayer is a controversial band to social conservatives has he individually ever responded to their charges? The article says he met Kerry King while trying for a guitar position in a band – which band (even if it’s obscure compared to Slayer it deserves to be named). When he cites his influences, direct quotes of him doing so would be preferable to just a list of bands. Which musicians in particular were most influential on him. Maybe we can assume it was the guitarists in these bands but direct quotes would improve this segment and perhaps tell us what style elements of these musicians he found inspiring. How long has he played guitar, was he with any other band ever - even in high school? If so they should be mentioned, if not this should be noted in a sentence such as "Slayer is Hanneman's first band." Descriptions of his own playing style would improve this article as long as these quotes were from either him, Rock critics, or fellow notable musicians. More information about his creative process in songwritting would improve the article. The article says “Slayer's earlier records were dominated by Hanneman's song-writing” when and why did this change? If you can find any direct quotes from him about creating songs or albumns, or the meanings behind them, these should be included in the article. Currently only Angel of Death is given this treatment. If he has used other gear before his current equipment setup it should be mentioned in the Equipment segment - this seems likely as you're not born with your own signiture series. Has he ever talked about his music appearing in movies, television, or video-games? Has he ever said anything about his appearances on Viva la Bam or did he in particular interact with the cast in a memorable way in those episodes? There is also no mention of his appearance in the film Dracula 2000. See http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1101744/. Does he have any kids or any plans on having kids? If not then you don't need to mention the lack thereof but could write something like this "He and his wife have lived in NameOfTown, NameOfState since YEAR" which would tell the reader this without having to spell it out, as it is now the article doesn't even say where he lives.

[edit] GA on hold
The GA is currently on hold. There a lot of statements that need sourcing, including the following:
King mentioned "Why don't we start our OWN band?", Hanneman replied "...Fuck yeah!" (source that)
The band was about to enter the recording studio until Hanneman received a call from Slayer's producer Rick Rubin stating “Ahhhh, don’t do it, man -- this is the kind of thing that breaks bands up!” (source that)
While Slayer are on tour Kathryn stays home as Hanneman states when he comes home she's "all brand new again" (source needed)
Hanneman is interested in Nazi war medals and Nazi Germany, the subject to much of the lyrics he writes. People have taken this to be evidence that Hanneman, as well as the rest of Slayer, are Nazis. Hanneman's obsession began when his father, offered him a medal he had taken from a dead Nazi soldier. (source that)
"People often interpret the lyrics" states Hanneman "nothing I put in the lyrics that says necessarily he was a bad man, because to me - well, isn't that obvious? I shouldn't have to tell you that." (I'm unclear on what this means. Does he think Mengele is a bad or not bad person?)
When writing new material the band will write the music before the lyrics. Hanneman comes up with riffs at his house, using a 24-track and drum machine. Hanneman will show band members the riff, to see what they think; King and Lombardo will often mention if any alterations can be made. The band will play the riff to get the basic song structure, and then figure out where the lyrics and solos go (source that)
Cross these out as they are satisfied; when they're all crossed out, I'll pass it. DoomsDay349 01:26, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- The single reference at the end of paragraphs sources all the statements made in the text. It doesn't make sense to put the same reference in a paragraph 5 times when i can put one at the end. M3tal H3ad 04:54, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

- It makes getting GA and/or FA a lot easier to put them at the end of every sentence though. If it isn't done, the article will end up failed and you'll have to appeal to GAR. LuciferMorgan 20:39, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

- Still, I think it's acceptable for a GA. The FA standards won't accept it, though. DoomsDay349 20:56, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- I can't get this article FA not enough info on his personal life. I've seen the single reference used in many FA's no point over citing a paragraph with the same reference every sentence when you can have one at the end to make it neater. M3tal H3ad 01:03, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- All done. M3tal H3ad 07:14, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- If they're all done then, strike them through like the GA reviewer said. Then they'll pass it hopefully. :) LuciferMorgan 03:58, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA Nomination Status: Pass
As this article has been on hold for eight days, I have checked over the article once more, and finding that the above changes have been made in addition to a reading of the article, I have determined that in meets the good article criteria, and therefore it passes.
