[edit] Wow

The speed at which information flows is insane. I wanted to update the page but didn't hear his name. haha!

Yeah, I'm rather surprised that people are so fast at this thanks to the Daily Show saying stuff about it. Anyway, didn't Jeff himself just directly imply that he never intended to practice law? Someone should take that law studying part off if that's true; I mean, they were willing to take off that he got killed by a mountain lion/goat/whatever, right?

A legit way to add mention of it would be that Stewart delcared Garlin "had been killed by a mountain goat." It's true and verifiable that Stewart said that, and is therefore not vandalism. At the least, a mention of Garlin's appearance on the Daily Show should be made since it's notable. It was in there earlier, but was wrongly deleted during the edit wars. You're implication that the Daily Show appearance is notable is based solely on his mention of Wikipedia. That's weak at best. —Wknight94 (talk) 04:30, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Who are you to decide what is and is not notable? It was his first major public appearance for some time. 1.3 million people watched the episode and took note, it's notable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stantz (talk • contribs) 05:31, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
The Mountain Goat comment and the daily show episode have inevitably become part of this article, at the very least it only makes sense to include a mention of it and the resulting vandalism since one way or another people will just edit the article and it will eventually become part of the article, if not now in the future. Theonlysilentbob 06:39, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
This should go on Wikipedia in culture not here, imo. Chandlertalk 07:59, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Could be a cultural referance thing. Mention of Wikipedia doesn't make this automatically non-notable. -- Cat chi? 13:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
"...didn't Jeff himself just directly imply that he never intended to practice law?" -- No. Mr. Garlin flatly said that particular edit was vandalism by his brother, and that he has never studied law. The edit may be found on 17 April 2007, by 142.51.33.12 Hal 06:48, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Purpose of the talk page

Use the talk page only to discuss improvements needed in the article, or to request edits that need to be made but can't because it is protected (used {{editprotected}}). Any other discussion will be removed and the editor warned or blocked, depending on the severity of the edit. EVula // talk // // 04:01, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

What about the post above? Can I remove it and then block you? A.Z. 21:58, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually the purpose of talk pages is to talk about how to improve the article, not to talk about talking about the talk pages. For that, you would need to creat an article called "Talk:Jeff Garlin" and then go to the discussion tab "Talk:Talk:Jeff Garlin". Of course, at this point, I'm talking about about talking about the talk page, which is ludicrous. But EVula lead us down that inappropriate path.

Just for comparison, I'll post a proper Talk comment next:DirectRevelation 13:06, 11 November 2007 (UTC)DirectRevelation

[edit] Union Affiliation

Mr. Garlin has been repeatedly appearing at Writers Guild of Americ, west strike rallies in 2007. I see nothing in his bio to suggest he is a member though. Is he just a SAG member showing support?DirectRevelation 13:06, 11 November 2007 (UTC)DirectRevelaton

[edit] On

Daily Show, did he say something about "Don't ever trust anything on wikipedia."?

I do not recall anything about any pet, or, whatever,.... I do recall something about wiki.

Thank You,

I now think that he had said either "Don't ever take wikipedia seriously.", or something that would only be different by way of prepositions.

Basically, he suggested that people vandalize Jeff Garlin's entry. DS 18:18, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] possible sources

for the admins who have protected the page, here are a few sources for Garlin's bio:

Bio from HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm
Filmreference.com bio, although I've never heard of this before so I'm not too sure about its reliability.

[edit] Come on guys

Nerds are ruining the internet! What's the big deal about saying Jeff Garlin was killed by a mountain goat, for like, 5 minutes?

Isn't wikipedia supposed to be a medium of the people? Maybe even fun? (Don't tell me it's a legal thing -- I'm pretty sure Jeff Garlin isn't going to sue...)

but I certainly think this episode, and the quick response of responsible administrators, should be noted SOMEWHERE on wikipedia, if not on Jeff Garlin's page.

maybe you need to send me to wikipedia-retraining school —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enaduris (talkcontribs) 22:47, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

This was actually the result of yesterday's Daily Show where Jeff Garlin appeared as a guest. At one point Jon Stewart suggests, in response to Jeff's comments that his family and friends are constantly hacking his Wikipedia entry that he (Jon) wished the article would be edited to say Jeff was killed by a mountain goat. it was a crack at Wikipedia's volatility, and, sure enough, fans of the show have apparently done so. As much as people joke about it, things actually do work out, and that's why admins are on the site. --Christian Edward Gruber 04:35, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replacing the image

Hi guys - I didn't want to make it a requested edit because it's just a trivial little detail, but could an admin replace this article's image with Image:No male portrait.svg? The old placeholder needs replacing. DeusExMachina 02:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Sure thing. EVula // talk // // 02:22, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. ^_^ DeusExMachina 04:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
