[edit] Patriot Act and the Iraq War
"Flake initially supported the Patriot Act and the Iraq War, but more recently has changed his position to one of cautious opposition, including voting against appropriations for both." - Recent House votes seem to indicate otherwise? - http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2005/roll402.xml 69.16.168.94 (Talk) at 23:30, 7 August 2005
- The above was a procedural vote only - but it is true that Flake seems to go back and forth on both issues. The article should be reworded to reflect this. 70.108.114.100 09:50, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Temporary Worker Program & "Republican In Name Only" label
This comment was added by 69.140.1.190 (at 21:25, 13 January 2007): Flake supports creating a temporary worker program for border security, leading some anti-immigration conservative activists to give Flake the "Republican In Name Only" label.
But, if Republican's are PRO-business and boards, and the Democrats are PRO-American worker, then this is along party lines. Repubican's want LOWER wages and labor costs, they want foreign workers (Microsoft, etc) for science and mathmatics jobs. Democrats want to protect American born workers, union workers, etc. They don't want any American jobs going to foreign workers. I don't buy this statement. IP4240207xx 23:21, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- This is not the place for a debate. However, illegal immigration from Mexico has very little to do with jobs going to skilled workers-- most of those workers will be taking unskilled jobs. Also, while Democrats may say they don't want jobs going to foreign workers, many economists have argued that protectionism, raising the minimum wage, etc., does just that as companies have to make profits somehow and then outsource more. I don't think that Democrats would welcome Jeff Flake into the fold, since he's against almost all types of big government spending.--Gloriamarie 20:47, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

- Well, 1) I thought this WAS the place to discuss and debate? According to Wikipedia:Talk_page_guidelines: "The purpose of a Wikipedia talk page is to provide space for editors to discuss changes to its associated article or project page. Article talk pages should not be used by editors as platforms for their personal views." So, here I came to discuss this issue. 2) I never said: "illegal immigration from Mexico has very little to do with jobs going to skilled workers..." I just don't think that the statement is correct, and wanted to disuss it. 3) I agree, Rep. Flake is a government spending conservative, and would not be welcomed in the Democractic fold. 4) But, lets go back to the original question, is the statement correct?
