The Jeffrey E. Smith Institute of Real Estate, also known as the Smith Institute of Real Estate, operates within the Department of Finance in the Trulaske College of Business, at the University of Missouri.

Established in 2005, through a donation from Jeffrey Smith, an alumnus of the college, the Jeffrey E. Smith Institute of Real Estate was created to meet the growing interest of students in the College of Business, seeking to learn more about the real estate industry.[1] In addition, the Institute helps arrange and sponsor speakers from around the country to speak to classes in the real estate curriculum and to deliver MBA seminars. The Institute also provides support to Rho Epsilon, the national student professional organization in real estate and currently offers four different classes that covers various aspects and disciplines of the real estate industry. In 2006, Samuel Goldman was hired as the first director of the Institute. In addition to the The April Forum the Institute sponsors a mini forum for both undergraduate and graduate students introducing the students to the many facets of real estate. Real estate professionals from around the state have participated in the program.

Each year, the Jeffrey E. Smith Institute of Real Estate and Jeffrey E. Smith Companies organize an annual real estate forum that brings nationally recognized speakers from around the country to speak on the emerging trends of the real estate industry. This annual event is well recognized in the Midwest and it allows students to meet and interact with professionals within the industry often resulting in internship or job opportunities. Past notable keynote speakers include Sam Zell, chairman and founder of Equity Group Investments.

Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway has been announced as the keynote speaker for 2008.[3]
