[edit] Biographical information

Rense was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Southern California. He worked as a television news reporter, producer and anchor for Santa Barbara's ABC affiliate, KEYT-TV. He performed the same duties for a handful of TV stations in the Northwest in the early to mid-1980s, including Oregon NBC affiliate KOBI-TV. By the late-1980s while working at a Las Vegas, Nevada television station as a news anchor, Rense claims he became "disillusioned" with TV broadcasting and decided to leave television broadcasting altogether. After what he refers to as "walking away" from a twelve year TV career,[3] Rense returned to Santa Barbara and opened several "All About Pets" stores, which he sold in the early-1990s Rense's favorite singer is Mario Lanza and he hosts a Lanza website. In 2007 3 CDs of rare recordings of Mario Lanza's were released in which he produced.[4]

[edit] About the show

Rense first tried his hand at radio while an education major at the University of California Santa Barbara. Sometime in 1994 Rense decided to self-finance his own radio show[5] and approached Santa Barbara radio station KTMS with his idea for a talk radio show. The web stream radio show was originally known as "Sightings", by agreement with actor/producer Henry Winkler, who was producing the syndicated television show "Sightings" (TV-Series 1992-1997).[6] The radio show was web broadcast at the web address www.sightings.com. About the year 2000, all reference to "Sightings" was dropped, and the new web site www.rense.com was introduced. The show is broadcast live over radio networks, satellite radio and the internet.

[edit] Show topics & previous guests

Two recurring themes on the Rense show are a general mistrust of the establishment (particularly the right wing), and the attacks on the New York World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Regular guests include conspiracy theorists, geopolitical experts, ufologists, and critics of the establishment such as congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, Jordan Maxwell, and Devy Kidd. One of Rense's favourite guests is paranormal expert, Brad Steiger, who is also a personal friend of Rense. Rense has also interviewed controversial South African journalist Jani Allan and ex-Zimbabwean Jan Lamprecht, who became a regular commentator. The Rense.com web page access is now restricted (as of 12/2007) from some users by the Websense firewall, which blocks the site under the categories "racism" and "hate", due primarily to the Rense's criticism of Zionism. Other favorite topics of Rense include genetically modified food, chemtrail analysis, the effects of Mobile phone radiation on the human body, and illegal immigration.[7]

[edit] Books

Rense authored the 1997 book "AIDS Exposed" (BioAlert press, ISBN 096489890X).[8]
