Jeff Cooper (born 5 April 1952 in Bournemouth, UK) is a British radio presenter and producer.
Cooper joined the radio industry in 1972, working briefly as a studio engineer for the Netherlands offshore pirate radio station Radio Veronica.
Moving to the BBC, Cooper was a radio presenter and newsreader for BBC Radio 2, where his duties included reading the news, the Shipping Forecast and presenting 'Music Through Midnight' and 'The Early Show'. In the 1980s, he was a producer/presenter for BBC Radio Manchester and news broadcaster for BBC WM in Birmingham, and later during the decade, set-up LBC Music Radio, which broadcast across the Italian border into Lugano, Switzerland. The station's transmitter and frequency were sold to a Milanese station in the early 1990s.
His career has also included presentation positions at a number of UK Independent Local Radio stations, including Radio Clyde in Glasgow, 96 Trent FM in Nottingham, Piccadilly Radio in Manchester, Radio City in Liverpool, 97.4 Rock FM in Lancashire, and Hallam FM in Sheffield. He also enjoyed time on air on the networked satellite service "The Superstation" in the early 1990's, and has spent time as Programme Controller of Peak FM in Chesterfield and Silk FM in Macclesfield.
He is a radio presentation tutor in Bornholm in Denmark, St Petersburg in Russia, Tallinn in Estonia and Vilnius in Lithuania, and has recently run radio seminars for Host Media Centre in Leeds and the Mid-Cheshire College. In 2007, he began contributing to the Music Technology course at Bolton University, lecturing on radio playout systems and online media distribution.
His 'XS' show was nominated for a UK Sony Radio Award in 1998.
Cooper now presents shows for Smooth Radio in Nottingham. Originally, he presented Saturday 1-5pm and Sunday 6-10am. Later Ian Chilvers took over Jeff's Sunday slot as Jeff started a new show called "Jeff Cooper's Collection" which ran every Sunday night between 8pm and 12am, replacing John Shaw. In October 2007, Smooth had a schedule change and Jeff's current shows are now Saturday Mornings 10am-2pm and "70's Sunday" on Smooth 2-5pm Sundays, which he returned to after covering for Tim Gough's weekday afternoon show 1-4pm for two months.
