Meanings of Jebus:

Historical

  • Jebus – fortress on the hill of Zion captured by King David
  • Jebusite – Canaanite tribe who inhabited the region around Jerusalem prior to its capture by King David
  • Jerusalem – Jebus (יבוס, Standard Hebrew Yəvus, Tiberian Hebrew Yəḇûs) is supposed to be the name of Jerusalem before it was captured by the Israelites (Joshua 18:28; Judges 19:10-14; 1 Chronicles 11:4-5); however, the Amarna letters confirm that the pre-Israel Canaanite population also called the city Jerusalem.
