I am curious of why the image that the article shows is in black and white. It is the usual way of displaying it. The color image clearly shows that the flags in the ship are fake, they have been repainted to hide what is underneath.

These flags are unknown or nonexisting, a product of the imagination of the painter. Is it possible to see the actual flags under the repainted ones? The re-painter was trying to hide something. There is another drawing of Bethencourt returning to explain his conquests to the king of Castille, they say. But Castille had no king at that time. Which king is the one shown?
