Talk:Jean Renoir
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I restored a lot of the information that had been deleted at different times. I am not sure what the reason was, but I am happy to discuss it with anyone who objects to restoring it.
I suggest the reference to the Welles article be placed in a separate section for reference articles. Also, this article could use a bibliography of writings by and about Renoir. I'd love to create one, and I hope to add footnotes to sources at some point.
The filmography is pretty good, but some of the English titles to the early films are unusual. I have never seen La Chienne called, "Isn't Life a Bitch?", and so changed it to the more common, "The Bitch." There are others. "Backbiters"? Was "Catherine" released in England under that title?
Including the names of stars in many of the films, I don't think, is a bad idea. A film is a collaboration of hundreds of people, not one person. Renoir's relationships with his actors were central to his work.
I took out the reference to Charlie Chaplin being known as Charlot in France. It's a charming detail, but it didn't seem relevent to a bio of this size. But I have no objections to restoring it either.
