In his own words ?
As in 'le cherche midi éditeur, 1997 -Jean Bazaine:couleurs et mots, page 9:
" Ce fut par mon arrière-grand-père que la branche anglaise, et en mème temps la peinture, firent à leur tour irruption dans la famille: il épousa Georgiana Hayter, dont le Grand-père était miniaturiste à la cour de Saxe-Cobourg. Et quand la princesse Victoria devint la reine au mème prénom, il la suivit à la cour d'Angleterre. Son fils, George Hayter, peintre et graveur, devait devenir le peintre officiel de la cour. Et il fut célèbre "
Translated: "It was through my great-grandfather that the English branch, and with it painting, made its irruption into the family: he married Georgina Hayter, whose grandfather was a miniaturist at the Court of Saxe-Cobourg. And when princes Victoria became the queen of the same name, he followed here at the English Court. His son, George Hayter, painter and engraver, was to become official Court painter. And he became famous." ( Jean Bazaine in conversation with Roger Lesgard in op. cit )
While it does not follow from this reference that he was the great great grandson - Georgina Hayter could, for all we can guess, have been George Hayter's niece- it may be used as published source for Jean René's family tie with the "painting" Hayters.
The cited reference goes accompanied with a portrait of Jean Bazaine's great grandmother, Georgina Hayter (1819 -by Hayter, unspecified which Hayter)

Hi, I just wanted to clarify that in the published source 'Crisps Visitations of England and Wales' Volume 17, Published 1911, Sir George Hayter's descendants are recorded in detail and Georgina Hayter Born 1811 is shown to be his eldest daughter and married Dominique Bazaine in 1832. I have therefore adjusted the article on Jean Bazaine back to an earlier state which states that he was the great great grandson of Sir George Hayter and will cite this source combined with 'Couleurs et Mots'. For the avoidance of doubt, albeit not published and therefore unsubmissable, I am a direct descendant of Sir George Hayter and met Jean Bazaine for the first time in 1999 in his studio in Clamart. He showed me the portrait of his Great Grandmother Georgina Hayter which he told me was by her father Sir George Hayter. Georgina's husband Dominique Bazaine was the elder brother of Marshall François Achille Bazaine 'Bazaine, les Secrets d'un Marechal' by Maurice Baumont, Imprimerie Nationale, Paris, 1978.EHayter (talk) 00:33, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
