Talk:Jean-Pierre Rampal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rampal once appeared on the Dick Cavett show performing with Julius Baker, another great flutist of his era. It must have been the early 70's. If anyone knows of a way to obtain a recording of this show I would be quite grateful. Please e-mail larry @ larryseltzer.com
The article claims that Rampal was principal flute of the Paris Opera. There seems to be some doubt about this. In his autobiography, Rampal definitely describes playing at the Opera in Paris. But he does not specially say he was principal and at one point mentions being ready to play second in Der Rosenkavalier and being suddenly called upon to sight-read first because of illness. Does anyone know what the basis for the claim that Rampal was principal? Rcneville 04:09, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Photos
I'm struck by the lack of a photo of Rampal in the article, other than that shown on the cover of his autobiography; can no "headshot" of him be found that could be included without committing a violation of copyright? Vivliothykarios 18:56, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- We've been waiting for you to come up with one. :-) But seriously, there are no doubt photos out there that could be donated, if only we got the right person's attention. Students of his perhaps? Makes me wish I'd taken photos the couple of times I saw him in concert... Stan 02:58, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Incidentally, WP's rules don't allow album covers to be used as cheap photo substitutes. Stan 16:52, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
