Balestre was a Nazi collaborator not a spy for the resistance - I'll try and find a source for this.

[edit] He was in the SS!

He only claimed he was in the Resistance when people brought up his membership of the French SS! Apparently he was undermining the Nazi state from within.... Here's a nice picture of Balestre defending the French Republic against the evils of Nazism:
