Jeansagnière

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeansagnière is a village and commune in the Loire département of central France. The origins of the name “Jeansagnière” is from a once well-known resident. The area specialized in slaughtering pigs, the knowledge to required to do so was needed by all of the families in the area which wished to take part in the annual tradition of: “to kill the pig”. “Jean the Slaughterer” was thus rather famous in the area, and the hamlet where he lived adopted this same nickname, and in French “Jean the Slaughterer” became Jeansagnière.[1]
