[edit] Biography

Jeannie Ortega was a member of the first graduating class of Brooklyn's High School of The Arts, along with long time friend Stickz Greenz. In her youth, she performed at local parks as “Spice,” (one half of a kiddie singing group she called “Sugar & Spice”) and numerous times throughout her school years.

At age 16, Ortega had her first real recording, and it was placed on the soundtrack for the movie Love Don't Cost a Thing. She later received a major recording deal with Hollywood Records and released her debut album, No Place Like Brooklyn on August 1, 2006. Her debut single is the hip-hop influenced "Crowded," which features Papoose. She has also finished work on a film called Step Up starring Mario and Channing Tatum.

On July 29, 2006 Nina Sky, Papoose, Eric West, Kovas, Quan and Stickz Greenz, her speculated boyfriend at the time, were some of the artists who showed up for the release party for Ortega's debut album at Webster Hall in New York City. [1] On August 10, 2006 the album entered the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart at No.1. [2] The album leaked onto the internet more than half a year before it's retail date in stores. On Jeannie's official myspace profile, in some blogs, and in a home video, Jeannie states that she is working on her second album, in which some songs have leaked.

In 2007 Ortega along with Eric West and Catherine McQueen presented together at the first US Urban Music Awards in New York.

Jeannie attended elementary school P.S. 145 on Noll Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Jeannie also attended junior high school I.S. 111 (currently I.S. 347 and 349) in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
