Jeanmarie Simpson (born November 20, 1959 in Ray, Arizona) is an American peace activist and theatre/film artist.

[edit] Early Life
The daughter of Maria Luisa Jugo, a Venezuelan-American and Donald Leroy Simpson, an American mining engineer, Jeanmarie Simpson was raised in rural Arizona. Her family's move to Toronto, Canada in 1970 led to her theatre training.

She is founding artistic director of the Nevada Shakespeare Company. She starred in the film version of her play, A Single Woman, based on the life of first US Congresswoman and lifelong pacifist, Jeannette Rankin.

Jeanmarie Simpson is a Lifetime Member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, sitting on the National Board of the US Section as of June, 2006. According to a 2001 interview in the Reno News and Review, she has been a pacifist and human rights/peace activist since 1984, when she observed the disparity between the wealthy and socio-economically challenged members of society while working as a Special Projects Coordinator for Consolidated Agencies of Human Service in Hawthorne, Nevada.

A mother of three (Domenic Stockton born May 12, 1979, Paul Stockton born June 21, 1981 and Emily Harbaugh born July 24 1985) and a grandmother (Casey Joel Stockton born November 1, 2006), Jeanmarie Simpson is one of six siblings. Her brother Don Simpson is a Tucson composer and musician, brother Daniel Simpson ran Habitat For Humanity in Madagascar and Mozambique for many years, brother Jeff Simpson is an Arizona musician, union organizer and political campaign organizer and brother Scott Simpson is a musician and owner of the celebrated bistro, The Jones, in Seattle Washington. Sister LeslieAnne Simpson Seifert is a community activist in Houston, Texas. Simpson is the cousin of film artist Kamala Lopez.

In August of 2006, Simpson moved from Reno, Nevada, where she had spent most of the previous 28 years, to Los Angeles, California.
