Jean Valentine

Jean Valentine (b. 1934) is an American poet. She was born in Chicago, received a bachelor of arts degree at Radcliffe College, and has lived most of her life in New York City. Her early poem "Dream Barker" received the Yale Younger Poets Award in 1965, and the 2004 collection of her poetry, Door in the Mountain, received the National Book Award for poetry. She has taught with the Graduate Writing Program at New York University, at Columbia University, at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan, and at Sarah Lawrence College. She is a faculty member at Vermont College of Fine Arts.[1]

She was once married to the late American historian James Chace.
