General Joseph Édouard Jean Boyle, CMM, CD (born 1947 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a Canadian fighter pilot, retired General, and businessman.
Boyle joined the military in 1967, and graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada four years later, student # 8790. He returned to the Royal Military College of Canada as Commandant in 1991.
In 1995, he was made a Commander of the Order of Military Merit. He was Vice President, International Business Development, Boeing Military Aircraft and Missile Systems Group.
Boyle became the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), the head of the Canadian Military, in January 1996 but was forced to resign in disgrace in October 1996 due to his involvement with the coverup of the altering of documents related to the Somalia Affair. His attempts to blame this sorry state of affairs on his subordinates hastened his departure.
