Jean Alaux, called the Roman, (le Romain) (1786, Bordeaux - 1864, Paris) was a French painter.

A pupil of Pierre Lacour then of Pierre-Narcisse Guérin, he won the prix de Rome in 1815, and was a pensionary at the French Academy in Rome from 1816 to 1820 (later becoming its director).

Under the July Monarchy, he worked at the "galerie des batailles" at the château de Versailles, for which he painted :
