Jean-Marie de Lamennais

Jean-Marie Robert de Lamennais (or de la Mennais) (1780-1860) was a French Roman-Catholic priest, brother of the philosopher Hughes Felicité Robert de Lamennais, whom he influenced in their youth.

Jean-Marie Robert de Lamennais founded the Institute of the Brothers of Christian Instruction in 1817 in order to support education of poor children. The congregation had about 800 members in the time of Lamennais death.
