Jean-Claude La Marre is an African-American writer of Haitian parents, director and film and television actor. His film credits include Malcolm X, Dead Presidents, and Go For Broke. On television, he has guest-starred on New York Undercover, Law & Order, and NYPD Blue.

On his Myspace page he revealed that he had become a Christian. He was quoted as saying "Several months ago, while sitting home reading the newspaper, an article caught my attention. A 22-year old boy from South Central was involved in a brutal slaying as part of a gang initiation. He shot and murdered a young high school boy on the playgrounds. Several eyewitnesses identified the boy from the neighborhood, and his gang affiliation. Detectives secured a warrant, and visited the boy's home. While the Detectives waited and spoke with the suspect's mother, they searched his room. They found several shell casings, a 9 Milimeter handgun, and something interesting in the DVD player. a copy of the movie "Fresh". It was the boy's favorite movie. God touched me that day, and I was convicted. If I made a negative movie, and its affects can last almost 10 years, and take a life. What if I made POSITIVE movies, how long will they last and how many lives can we save?"

La Marre's most recent work is Color of the Cross, a film that portrays Jesus Christ as a black man, and implies that Christ's persecution was a racially-motivated hate crime.
