"Jealous" is a pop/R&B song written by Brett Laurence and Shelly Peiken, and produced by Ferdie Marquez for Nina's debut album, Heaven (2002). It was released as the album's official second single in 2003 in the Philippines.
[edit] Release
Due to the underperformance of the first single, it was critical whether the next single would perform as well or even better than the first. When the song was released in February of 2003, the song managed to pick up substantial airplay, allowing it to enter the charts immediately, which was not the case for the first two releases by Nina. A month later, the song reached the Top 3, as the song and video became more requested. By April, the song had topped the Philippine Singles Chart, becoming Nina's first number one single. It is considered to be Nina's breakthrough single to the music scene, as she became a favorite after its release.
[edit] Video
Unlike the previous video, Nina portrays a woman that has lost her lover, feeling "jealous of the one" who is with her former love. Scenes of Nina looking at her ex-boyfriend and his new flame are shown, as Nina finally tries to let go of the memories by throwing all the pictures she and her ex-boyfriend are in together. The video was nominated for Best Female Video (losing to "Sa Aking Pag-iisa" by Regine Velasquez) and won Best New Artist in the 2003 MTV Pilipinas Awards.
