[edit] Deletion Review
The authors of this page, which you deleted, have re-added it for the second or third time. Welcome your attention on this issue. Seems to a group of users: [1] Saganaki- 07:22, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Hello Saganaki; fancy seeing you on this page as well. Anyway, just to repeat the response I posted on the talk page for Joyous!, I added the page with the initial copy. Would appreciate some actual clarification as to why the article is considered objectionable.
[edit] Highland Society Deletion
Could you please explain why you speedy deleted the page on the Otago University Highland and Gaelic Society. From what I could make out it is because you consider the Society not notable? If this is indeed the case I disagree strongly. The Society is indeed notable.
Its campaigns have appeared regularly in national media in New Zealand and I would have though that would be enough notability in itself. Some of its aims have even seen fruition in influencing University management in course creation. They are also notable in being one of the few groups teaching the otherwise dying Gaelic language in New Zealand. If this does not meet the notability criteria I'm not really sure what you're looking for.
Further, the original members of the Society have recently left, and this history risks being lost forever. Wikipedia will be a richer and more useful resource with its inclusion. I hope you review your decision.
Thank you for your time. Tartanperil 10:55, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

New Ivies has been recommended for deletion, click here —ExplorerCDT 06:41, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Several users have expressed concern over my block nomination of several college a cappella groups. I would like to apologize for causing a medium-sized ruckus on the AFD page and thereby wasting the time of several excellent contributors. I see now that this was an ill choice for a block nomination. I'll be relisting most of the articles individually as soon as I can double check the list. Again, please accept my apologies. savidan(talk) (e@) 17:07, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Info on Islamophobic group
Hello,
What follows are the thoughts, expressed in their own words, and in the 'protest signs', of the obscure, very small, but very vocal 'activist group' known as "Protest Warrior".
"What's becoming clear is how the religion of Islam is addicted to war and mayhem. Not a radical minority, not a rogue sect, but its very essence is about submission and sacrifice and proving your worth by worshipping death in this life to gain a paradise of orgies and drunkenness. Their entire history is of warfare, and any accomplishments of their so-called Golden Age has been proven to be merely parasitic off the cultures they've conquered and reduced to dhimmi servitude. That every country under sharia is corrupt, belligerent, desolate and barbaric obviously gives them no pause, except to constantly drive them into further psychotic rage as they refuse to ever accept any responsibility for their conditions. They are akin to the powers in Orwell's 1984; there must always be an enemy. It's no surprise that women are treated like property in these countries as that's the only way Muslim men can feed their egos, to dominate others rather than ever actually produce something."
Kfir Alfia and Alan Lipton, founders of "Protest Warrior"
Their 'protest signs'...
Signs
I thought you might be interested in this group's sentiments. They are currently very actively editing their own article on Wiki and there is a lot of 'group think'. Perhaps you might want to become involved in the editing and discussion process on that page. If you do, please don't vandalize, and try to remain civil. Should you not want to involve youself, please forgive my intrusion.

[edit] You deleted a page of that I made
Excuse Me,
You deleted a page that I tried to contribute. I know it was a small page, but it took me 90 minutes to do. I'm not trying to be mean or ignorant or even get kicked off of here, but there are lesser known skateboarders than joe weber that have pages on here, and I even see no name dvd and internet porn stars that have their own page.
I know the guy doesnt love media attention but im almost positive this site can not get in trouble.
So, I am sorry, I just dont know what I did wrong, and if I really did something wrong could you tell me what it was cause he is my favorite skater, and he really is better than about a fifth of the skaters that have articles.
Please Reply,
thank you
Steven

[edit] September Esperanza Newsletter
|
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors! |

[edit] thanks, im sorry
Thank you for responding about the deletion of the joe weber pro skateboard article, im sorry about how I acted, it wasnt that important, i was just a little upset cause it took me a while to gather most of the facts and make the article. Anyway, he's more of a North East Us skater, mainly popular in the under ground skate community, not like an X-games guy. But, I did the google search and only got 4 links about him telling very very little, so I understand about the Wikipedia thing. So once again I'm sorry and thank you for explaining. I did see him in a seen with Ryan Dunn and Bam Margera in Jackass number Two on Friday, He might even be credited in the movie so check that out if you are interested. Im not saying that for you to put the article back up, just want you to know I'm not making stuff up.
Thanks again,
Steven
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Icca06 cropped.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Icca06 cropped.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 00:22, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion of page Dennis Pethers
Could you please explain to me why you deleted the page Dennis Pethers that I created. Surely he is classed as a man of notibility? He is an author, and the founder of a well established Christian organisation. He certainly passes the Google test too. You did not provide any explanation for the deletion of this page; I would appreciate it if you did so. I do not see that his notability should be an issue, and I'm sure lots of people would like to read more about the man and contribute to the article.

[edit] Porn actress deletions
You deleted Chelsea Charms; I've undeleted it. Discussion at Talk:Chelsea Charms. —Quarl (talk) 2006-10-05 08:49Z
- Hi JDoorjam, I now notice you've been on a porn-actress deletion "rampage". I also notice that many deletions ignored previous AFDs and assertions of notability, and a number have already been undeleted [2]. I humbly ask you to stop deleting for a moment so we can discuss this rationally. —Quarl (talk) 2006-10-05 09:14Z
- It looks like as early as 2006-05-31 someone has messaged you about this issue [3], and your response was to go on wikibreak and protect your talk page? Now you are deleting outright instead of tagging for deletion, so I think you would need to be much more careful. —Quarl (talk) 2006-10-05 09:34Z
- I went through a couple of the porn star lists and deleted the ones which I believed to be non-notable bios. There are a lot of them. It's as though no one had ever combed through the bands on Wikipedia to remove the non-notable ones... except, you know, with more nudity. I think that, given new anti-spam CSD criteria in addition to the long-standing notability guidelines, my actions were warranted. Thank you for letting me know you'd undeleted Chelsea Charms; I'm in the midst of writing up an AfD for it now, where it can be discussed at greater length (including the flimsiness of the first AfD). JDoorjam Talk 09:30, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm glad you're making things more consistent and going about it in a rigorous way. However, I don't think the articles you've deleted fall under "Pages whose content only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be substantially rewritten in order to become an encyclopedic article". Also, you are deleting them with the edit summary "db-bio", which I surmise to be CSD criterion A7, not G11. Normally I support admin discretion for speedy deletion, but in this case you are going against consensus when you delete articles with "keep" AFDs, so you need to justify your actions. —Quarl (talk) 2006-10-05 09:40Z
-
- My Wikibreak had nothing whatsoever to do with my deleting or tagging for deletion articles about non-notable porn stars. I will continue to be cautious in my use of admin abilities; however, as my AfD states, I still strongly feel that the article which started this discussion ought to be deleted, so this isn't an issue of carelessness. (I will be especially careful to check for AfDs on other articles.) G11 clearly applies in some cases, and less so in others; except on those articles which were composed in the first person, it's generally not as strong a stance as notability, but again, many of them seem suspiciously promotional. Chelsea Charms' article has artifacts that suggest such a promotional nature too, with the text at the bottom of the article claiming copyright over the photo. That seems like the step one would take if they were not really familiar with Wikipedia, and were awfully concerned about preserving the rights over the content (i.e., the owner of Chelsea Charms' site, or an employee). But that sort of "doesn't it look suspicious?" argument doesn't hold as much weight as "she has big boobs... and?". My point was more a general one: G11 opens the door slightly wider to the deletion of certain pages in this genre.
- In general I've been using the WP:PORNBIO framework in guiding my deletions, combined with my common sense and judgment, so again, it's not willy-nilly, I promise. And I'm a reasonable guy: I'm willing to discuss any deletion I make. I don't have a Golden Mop Complex about admin stuff; I know everyone makes mistakes once in a while, including me, and am more than willing to undelete if I'm convinced I've made an error. I'll be more careful with any future deletion summaries, too. You're right: db-bio is more terse than I should often be. JDoorjam Talk 09:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your responsiveness. As long as you're careful, I welcome your hard work to prune the non-notable bios. Uniformly applying WP:PORNBIO and using judgement is excellent; I was worried by the seemingly machine-gun deletions (fast rate and terse deletion summary). Suggestion: for the less clear-cut cases (and controversy from your recent deletions suggests you may have to raise the bar for what's an "obvious" deletion), use Prod instead of speedy deleting. —Quarl (talk) 2006-10-05 20:44Z

- Per responsiveness: if I was overzealous, I obviously want to find the "Zealous" knob and turn it down, so sure, I'm absolutely open to feedback. In regards to machine-gunning, I will try to be less M-60 and more M-82, slowing and providing more meaningful deletion summaries. (Incidentally, I had originally linked to M-82 instead of M82 (rifle), which totally would have screwed up that metaphor.) JDoorjam Talk 00:25, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I just wanted to second the comments from Quarl - I've very, very rarely seen articles speedy deleted that have survived AfD and all of those deletions have been Office or Jimbo type actions. I think its a great idea for you to re-open AfD discussions and point out the fallacies in the first go round, but please don't delete any more articles in this manner. I understand your concerns about their actual notability, but since multiple administrators have expressed concerns, it looks like this issue needs wider discussion. Shell babelfish 10:13, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Annnd I haven't deleted an article since. And no, I will not speedy-delete any more articles that have gone through AfD and been kept. JDoorjam Talk 10:15, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
The above articles have been restored. It is worth noting that you had twice deleted the Aliyah Yi article despite a fairly recent no consensus outcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aliyah Yi. Please allow me to reiterate the request to decist the deletion of articles in this manner; if there is a dispute regarding the merits of an article, please bring it to AFD for discussion instead. Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 10:23, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'll say it yet again: I won't delete articles that have gone through AfD. I apologize for having done so. JDoorjam Talk 17:13, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I have nominated Annie Swanson again, and I think some of the others are of highly questionable merit. Guy 08:26, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Questionable use of admin powers
Hello, I have noticed you are biasly deleting articles that do not fall into the speedy delete category. This is very harmful to Wikipedia and is clearly a violation of your abilities as an admin. I noticed this when you recently delete pornographic actress Brooke Ashley (later restored by Brookie). Not only does Brookie Ashley not fall into the speedy delete category, but is also a notable adult performer. I have evidence to supporting her notability as well. She is one of the few adult entertainer who contracted HIV and formerly holds a pornographic record. Her name brings over 110,000 hits on google, she has an article on German wikipedia, has AVN article [11], and has been referenced (mentioned) by Luke Ford [12], [13]. It seems apperant that you have not done research before deleting. Also if you feel an article such is this is not notable, please nominate it for AfD. Valoem talk 17:04, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- The article needs to make a claim to notability. The Google hit thing is irrelevant as "JDoorjam" has more hits, though that's more a personal opinion on the Google test. Having an AVN article is not a sign of notability as there are tens of thousands of such people. Neither is being mentioned by Luke Ford, and this mentioning isn't mentioned in the article anyway. And what record is it that she holds? Do you have a source that says that she's one of the few adult entertainers who contracted HIV? Are there sources for any of the claims in the article? No, I definitely stand by this deletion too. JDoorjam Talk 17:27, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- Did you even try to views the links I just sent you? Also you did not research before speedy deleting which is required. It is a clear violation there is no question about it, hence why Brookie restored it after I brought it up. She held the former anal gangbang record of 50 people and a quick search would show she has contracted HIV as well sa view the links i sent you. Valoem talk 17:43, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Getting HIV doesn't make her notable. Here's a list of porn stars who have died of AIDS. The article needs to make claims to notability. If you're sitting on all this good content, put it into the article, not my talk page. The article makes no claim for instance, that she's any sort of record holder. I'm currently working on an AfD for the article but if you have sources showing she's a record holder, I'll hold off while you put them in the article. JDoorjam Talk 17:59, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

-
- Actually getting HIV is in the heterosexual scene is relatively rare and deemed notable. Many articles (not relating to Wikipedia articles) have been written on heterosexual adult performers who contracted HIV, included Darren James, Jessica Dee, and most notably Lara Roxx. Anyways I added citations. Valoem talk 18:23, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please restore the article you have speedy deleted
Sorry I was in California for the last few days. Anyways I was going through your deletion log. I'm glad to see you stopped speedy deleting however:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=delete&user=JDoorjam&page=
most of the articles there do not fall into the speedy delete category, only a few of the vandal articles should have been deleted such as Black Angels (band). Other than those types of articles all others need to be restored. Esp the article that resulted in a keep after an afd which you still deleted. Valoem talk 11:27, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Several administrators have reviewed my speedy deletions at this point, restoring those they believed to be inappropriately deleted. While I do not agree with all of the articles they have undeleted, I will accept their evaluation of those articles and will not delete them again. All of the articles which had gone through AfD have, to my knowledge, been restored, so that is a moot issue. However, I will not summarily undelete all of the articles I have deleted. I did not delete them without thought, process, and reason, and will not undelete them without these either. JDoorjam Talk 17:49, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
This one passed afd and has not been restored, Angelica Bella. Valoem talk 20:06, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- It has now been restored, though I will probably soon be renominating it for deletion, as I don't think the subject is terribly notable. JDoorjam Talk 20:14, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alexis May Deleted.
Hi Alexis is one of my favourite porn stars from the UK. I am a big fan of hers and have met her at fan events. I have revied her entry several times and logged on today to make a contribution bu it has gone. I clicke the deletion log link to request that it has been deleted for it to either be put back or if you would be good enough to email me the entry it seems such a shame that such a comprehensive entry on her should just disappear. Thanks James. jamessmi@hotmail.com

[edit] Saw IV
Why has the Saw IV page been protected if there has been news about it being greenlit? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpalkfdu (talk • contribs)
- Because there isn't news that it has been greenlit, not that I've seen (including the source given in the article). The MTV article interviewed the writer, and Tobin Bell, who played Jigsaw. But that ain't greenlighting. Trust me: I absolutely expect this article will be in existence very soon, but there needs to be producer sign-off, preferably a script written, a filming schedule, or something along those lines. Until then, I haven't seen enough confirmed to warrant more than maybe a blurb in the main Saw article. If you have reliable (i.e., non-blog, non-speculative) sources that unwaveringly affirm the things I've just mentioned, then the Saw IV article ought to — and will — be unlocked and stubbed. JDoorjam Talk 22:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- One thing that I have seen constantly, is the fact that a blurb is being added to the Saw III page that there will be a sequel and an edit was is ensuing from that.--Dleav 14:58, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RC patrol category
Since your userbox page is protected, I wonder if you wouldn't mind making a change to it for me. On Wikipedia:User_categories_for_discussion#Patrollers, we have changed category:User Wikipedia/RC patrollers (NCR) to category:Wikipedian recent changes patrollers. This doesn't affect the userbox itself, just the category it leads to. Can you make that switch on your page so we can delete the old category? (Also, if you're feeling generous, could you go into User:Tijuana Brass and change category:User Wikipedia/Welcoming Committee to category:Wikipedians in the Welcoming Committee for the same reason? I'd appreciate that, as I don't have the admin superpowers necessary to make that happen.) Thanks!--Mike Selinker 15:04, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- If we moved anybody into a category that they wouldn't like, please pass on that new categories are welcome, as long as they're phrased something like the format we're putting in place. It looks like your userbox still gets to category:User Wikipedia/RC patrollers (NCR), so you might need to massage it a little more.--Mike Selinker 18:03, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] November Esperanza Newsletter
|
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.
Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

- The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
- In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
- A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
- Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

[edit] Pre-existing
Hi! I noticed that you removed the word pre-existing from Dick Cheney. It is a perfectly good word meaning "existing before something else". It is often used in health insurance to describe a condition that existed before the start of coverage. In the context of the article, it meant that the foot condition existed prior to the cardiovascular condition, and I think it was correctly used in this case. -- Coneslayer 23:01, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I just took your log message to suggest a misunderstanding. I think the word added a little information (the relative timing of the foot and heart problems), but it's not very important information. -- Coneslayer 23:17, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I have nothing to do with the original article, but I'm wondering about Brandon Davis. I mean, the guy is famous, he's on google, he was a model, he's an heir to a fortune, he's been linked to Linsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, and most recently, Brittney Spears, in which context I just saw him mentioned on E! Entertainment News. He's a notable individual, no matter what problems the article initially had. Do you disagree? Is there a way to create the article and make it reasonable? --Tractorkingsfan 00:15, 1 December 2006 (UTC)--

I noticed that you edited several parts of the "Meddiebempsters" entry due to the fact that the group's Web site is "nearly devoid of content." [edit] Aborted Merge
You began to initiate a Merge to action and aborted this action. You left no reason for your proposal and did not tag the 2nd article. I have reverted your aborted merger. TonyTheTiger 00:12, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Cyber Girl of the Year is a separate article from Playboy Cyber Club for the same reason Person of the Year is separate from Time (magazine) or Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award is separate from Major League Baseball in principal.
- You claim that one is a proper informational subset of the other, which is not quite accurate. When I initiated my Article for Undeletion on Playboy Online and Playboy Cyber Club. They gave me enough rope to hang myself by also undeleting Cyber Girl of the Year and Playboy Cyber Girl. I sort of think this is the right thing to do as you can see in my talk page discussion. Basically, in general, annual award honors are given separate web pages. At this point there have only been 5 years of CGOY and so the separate page is sparse. However, by merging this as you propose, it is sort done so under the philosophy that if something is a stub it must be merged if not expanded expediently.
- I am only one voice, but I am in opposition. I think this page should be treated equitably in relation to annual honors pages. TonyTheTiger 00:43, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Unlike the distinguished colleague here, who thinks genocide and mass murder is "a bit like" discussing George Bush, I don't appreciate having content removed from my user pages. Thank you in advance. Damir 11:16, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Damir, you know very well that I'm not comparing the subject matter of the two articles but the level of aggression and use of personal insults on the Talk pages.KarlXII 13:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
A user posted the same message about Bosniakophobia on several dozen talk pages. It was determined to be loosely targeted spam, and was decided on the Administrator's Noticeboard that the best way to deal with it was simply to roll it all back. After someone has spammed a number of users, rollback is the only step that can be taken to discourage those actions, and so I and at least one other user set about reverting those edits at the request of some users affected. This was not about my stance on this issue one way or the other; on the contrary, I did it because I'm neutral on this issue. (Well, in full disclosure, I'm more than neutral: I'm completely ignorant.) This mass revert was simply about talk page and spam policy, nothing else. I apologize for any confusion caused. Hello JDoor, in reply to your querry on this article's talk page I wrote the following response:
- As I have already told Jack I had never even heard of the site until I googled "Grosses Messer" looking for a picture, since I was unsure of the legal status of it I decided just to add the entire link. I will also mention that I did not appreciate how Jack began our interaction by immediately accusing me of link spamming which was not only a violation of good faith but was also completly unwarranted. I also attempted to explain my position by stating that guidelines may at times be ignored if their is good reason which in this case there was. I will admit that my reaction has not been appropriate at every turn but I feel it was almost justified considering such incivility on such a mundane detail.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 05:53, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re: merging a cappella
My main concern is that most of the info in these articles comes exclusively from the members' personal experiences and the group's websites. Thus, simply moving that info to another article would generally not be a solution. Very few of them can adequately described as an offshoot of the gleeclub (although the Cornell one you mentioned is). I happened to notice that you are from Cornell. If you know of any good sources for these, that'd be appreciated. savidan(talk) (e@) 07:23, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- They are two separate but very related issues. For example, many group's websites claim that they have preformed in front of X famous person. The referencing of that statement is very much tied to how notable it is (i.e. if only the group saw fit to write it on their website and no external sources reported on it that means that it was not a notable performance). Even for the notable alumni criteria an external source is important. The reason that criteria exists is because often less-notable groups can be useful to give context to notable artists; for this, sources are required. If the only source is about the gleeclub then perhaps its best to merge all those articles into the glee club article. None of these groups seem particularly notable outside of the their own institution. In general, though, I am not comfortable with musical groups writing their own history on their websites and then transferring that to Wikipedia. If there are no third party sources, I believe that to be a reason for deletion. Citing the subject of the article should be used to supplement non-controversial information into already notable articles, not to establish notability. Cheers, savidan(talk) (e@) 07:55, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Of course we can agree to disagree! Just so you know, there is a touch of dispute over how to interpret a tour as being notable (there's tons of linked discussion at the policy page). My interpretaion of a "concert tour [...] reported in reliable sources" does not always include an a cappella group going somewhere and then writing about it on their website. I use the word "not always" because I think it can contribute to notability without being a sufficient condition. Since most of these a cappella articles don't contain any information that is not on their own websites, and since said websites are all linked from the list of a cappella groups page I don't feel many qualms about applying verifiability to them. Just fyi: I do support the inclusion of groups on that list even if they are not notable enough for their own articles. savidan(talk) (e@) 08:26, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Insofar as I now appreciate that my edit summary was undesirably obtuse, I should observe that I wasn't myself tagging the article as {{db-spam}} but rather properly formatting the {{db-meta}} tag applied by another user to assert that the article was speediable per G11. I didn't undertake, to be sure, to consider whether the tag was appropriate (I simply noticed the page's being improperly situated at Category:Speedy deletion templates), but having looked at the article I think it plain that {{db-spam}} did not entail (not only is the article surely not spam, but, insofar as it "survived" an AfD less than a month ago, it surely ought not to have been tagged under any speedy criterion), and that I ought probably to have taken the extra three seconds to make such ascertainment myself. Thanks, in any case, for detagging, and my apologies for having been too busy lazy to have removed the tag myself. Cheers, Joe 00:26, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Re your message: I just saw your new article. Cool. When I read the article that was there before I deleted it, I thought it was somebody's autobiography, a hoax, or perhaps a copyvio (that "...a heart filled with hope." sounded rather over the top). -- Gogo Dodo 06:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

- Uh, yeah, don't you wish you could edit Edit summaries sometimes? It was a matter of clumsy split attention. I had been pasting "rv spam" into a bunch of edits of a spammer I had been following around, while in a separate tab I had pasted that address into Google Maps-- it's a house that's for sale. Didn't notice that "rv spam" had become that address until just after I hit return. I wondered if anyone would notice. Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 12:48, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

I saw your prod and decided merging would make more sense. Now I see you deleted the reference in the merged article. Neologisms are subject to WP:CSD as standalone articles as I'm sure you know. However, I am not aware of a guideline discouraging the use of common alternative slang names. As slang terms are not typically covered in more reputable publications, it would seem to make sense to "lower the bar" slightly for their inclusion, especially when the technical term, such as "value-priced fortified wine", is fairly obtuse. While "GHits" are obviously a shoddy gauge of notability, they are at least a broad populist measure of a term's popularity. I am performing a partial revert. If you disagree, you can revert me again and I won't restore it without a decent cite. However, this would probably be a poor use of both our time over such a minor point. —Dgiest c 01:49, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- How very odd: I googled bum wine, not the plural, and it appears there are 1/20th the number of hits for the singular. It was that googling on which I based my With neologisms I prefer to prod, rather than delete or speedy tag; just a matter of taste, I suppose (much like Thunderbird). Anyway, I'll leave it be. Thanks for the note. JDoorjam JDiscourse 04:51, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome
Hi, JDoorjam, and welcome to WikiProject
San Francisco Bay Area!
We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to the Bay Area. Here are some points that may be helpful:
- Our main aim is to help improve Bay Area-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page. It is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
- Our system for improving lower-quality articles is Jumpaclass. If you'll be editing stub, start, or B-class articles, consider using Jumpaclass to track your progress.
- If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Bay Area topics.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.
Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

[edit] Anna Lo Pezza deletion
Could you please explain why Anna Lo Pezza was deleted?
What do i need to do to get it undeleted?
thanks, Richard Myers 07:04, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- The Anna Lo Pezza article did not assert the notability of the individual, and so was eligible for speedy deletion. If you wish, you can pursue deletion review. JDoorjam JDiscourse 17:27, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- It didn't assert the notability (of the murder of the individual) only because it was deleted so quickly after it was created. This was the Bread and Roses strike. Anna's death was central to that struggle because it was used to put strike leaders in jail, yet it galvanized the strikers toward victory.
-
- Peter Carlson (now a writer with the Washington Post) has written that as a result of this strike, "A surge of energy moved through the debilitated American Labor movement."
-
- Eugene Debs said, "The Victory at Lawrence was the most decisive and far-reaching ever won by organized labor."
-
- Carlson suggests that this one strike caused employers to begin to deal with the American Federation of Labor, so that they wouldn't have to face future strikes led by the IWW.
-
- The phrase Bread and Roses has passed into common usage when referring to labor.
-
- Frank Steunenberg was governor of Idaho. Yet he is best known for his death, which was an assassination, the aftermath of which riveted the country for two years. Anna will likewise be known for her death, which may have shaped the entire history of organized labor in the U.S. until the present, with the AFL(-CIO) having become the dominant federation.
-
- In both cases, the deaths are very significant, the lives less so. Should the ex-governor have an article because he had been governor, and there be no article about Anna's very significant death because she wasn't previously notable?
-
- I urge you to undelete Anna Lo Pezza. I will take it to Deletion Review if necessary, but i would much rather begin working on it immediately. Richard Myers 22:19, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- I'm not going to get into debating the merits of one article over another with you, but oppose neither your taking the article to WP:DRV, nor working on the article in the interim. I have moved the deleted content to User:Richard Meyers/Anna Lo Pezza, where you can expand it and provide references. I would urge you to find sources that specifically say she is important enough to warrant an article about her (as opposed to the strike itself) in order to clear the notability guidelines. It may be more appropriate to simply expand the section on her death at Lawrence textile strike, and redirect to the article from her name.
-
-
- I would also recommend that, in the future, you fully flesh out articles either in user space or off-line, and fully explain the importance of an article's subject per the relevant notability guidelines before posting at Wikipedia. This will help avoid similar situations from occurring. When going through articles nominated for speedy deletion, I and other admins can only go off of what is in the article, not what may at some point be in the article down the road. Obviously articles need not be finished works when they are first written (there's no such thing on Wikipedia), but they ought at least rise to the notability guidelines. JDoorjam JDiscourse 23:16, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
-
-
-
- I just returned from posting at deletion review, and so am reading this response for the first time after using that procedure.
-
-
-
- So i need to post this:
-
-
-
-
- An editor has asked for a deletion review of Anna Lo Pezza. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Richard Myers 23:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
-
-
-
- Thanks for the suggestions. I have one question: does it make any difference that the content at User:Richard Meyers/Anna Lo Pezza is listed under a name spelled differently than mine? I am able to access, so perhaps not.
-
-
-
- As far as speedy deletion is concerned — would it hurt to allow a few extra hours time on articles that appear to be serious starts, so that someone could build their article? I understand in the case of frivolous material, but i have now spent several unproductive hours trying to comprehend the inner machinations of deletion review, when i might have been turning that article into something worthwhile.
-
-
-
- thanks, Richard Myers 23:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Oops! Sorry about misspelling your name; I've moved it into your user space now, at User:Richard Myers/Anna Lo Pezza. JDoorjam JDiscourse 00:52, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mark Katz deletion
you deleted my article on mark katz claiming it was "self-promotion". i'm not mark katz, so it seems impossible i could "self-promote" someone else. what gave you that impression? is there something i can do to remedy this situation so you won't delete my article? i'm a new wikipedia user so i appreciate advice.
- I've restored the article; upon review, I may have been overly hasty, and if so, I apologize. If there are news articles about Mr. Katz, or references for any of the content in the article, I would suggest it be put in (the Washington Monthly article at the bottom is a good start). I'd have to say while putting the AfD on hold until after the whole article thing blew over might have been a good idea, I don't see on what grounds you can possible have given it a speedy keep. Under speedy rules:
- The nomination was unquestionably vandalism or disruption and nobody else recommends deleting it (since calling a nomination vandalistic does not make it so, and vandals can be correct). Examples of this include obviously frivolous nominations (Such as featured articles), nominations which are made solely to provide a forum for disruption (e.g., a userpage of a contestant in a heated edit war by their opponent(s) solely for harassment) and making nominations of the same article with the same arguments after they were strongly rejected.
is the only thing that comes close, but others did recommend deleting it. Frankly, I believe it was a rash error to close, especially since you interjected your own opinion about notability into the mix. I suggest you reopen the discussion. You're right, there isn't a CSD for that, but another user creating the userpage of a user is generally frowned upon. User:Potus7 is a new user, so I was seeking to help them out instead of them looking at their userpage and going "What the heck?!" Further, your notifying me of the removal while User:Potus7 removed it makes me believe that you two are related in some fashion, if not the same person. A simple explanation may clear all this up though, so: Why did you create User:Potus7's userpage? This was not a reflection upon you by any means. --MECU≈talk 22:55, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:CCU seal.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:CCU seal.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploading Image:GBP_logo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:49, 13 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 04:49, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:SMSac logo.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:SMSac logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:07, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Santorum splash.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Santorum splash.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

A tag has been placed on Tuna casserole requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. richi (talk) 01:11, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Application_page1.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Application_page1.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Kelly hi! 13:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Fable2logo.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:Fable2logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Deletion of UniModal
Hi,
I noticed you deleted UniModal recently (April 12th). You cited some opinion you have of the article. Was there actually an AFD? Did you delete it based on some CSD criteria? I am very upset about this delete since you did not seem to notify *ANYONE* about it. I and many others have spent a whole hell of a lot of time on that page, and we have built it up with a good many cited sources and have made it quite objective.
If there is an AFD or something of the sort, I'd like to see it. If not, please replace the page so we can discuss deletion appropriately.
Please respond on my talk page. Fresheneesz (talk) 22:24, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think you should have notified some of the editors. I find it hard to argue with your assertion that it was "blatant advertisement" because I haven't been to the page in a long while. However, I and a good number of other users have put a lot of work into that article, and I think those editors would not appreciate such a hasty deletion. I think you should have weighed the amount of work that has been put into the article, along with the article's age alongside your opinion of its content. May I request that you either undelete it so it can be properly reviewed, or copy it to a temporary address?
- I have started a deletion review at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2008_May_5. Fresheneesz (talk) 07:28, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- After noticing the deletion, I made up my mind I would find some way to put up whatever admin did it to review along with the deletion. After noticing your politeness, I had second thoughts. Seeing that a good many other users here have complained about your "machine-gun" deletions, I am having third thoughts. It looks like you are more than likely not being objective about your deletions, and I think you might do well to lay off. If it interests you, you might want (or not want..) to read an essay I helped create, preserved at Don't Destroy. Fresheneesz (talk) 07:39, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Incivility
retracted (see below) ATren (talk) 23:08, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- None of that has to do with his question about whether UniModal has a physical address, which does seem to be a relevant question in determining whether the organization meets notability thresholds. If you have an issue with the question he posed, you should say so (though from your eventual response to his question, it appears you think the issue is a valid one). I am surprised that you chose to respond to his question with your statements about his other postings, rather than responding to his (IMO less constructive) arguments for deletion of the article -- though there as well, the appropriate tack is to address the arguments, and not the arguer. I haven't checked into the validity of your statements about his other postings because it simply doesn't matter: in the context of this project, you should try to check at the door the arguments and conflicts of personality and transit philosophy and whatever else that crop up in other places. If these have a direct bearing on an article or policy, please explain why -- otherwise, you should try to leave your opinions about PRT at the door when you edit Wikipedia; trying to be objective makes all of us better editors. - Sorry... and you are right, I am not objective - [28]... Interesting - "I got my July issue of Popular Science yesterday and what do I see on the cover? PRT! To be exact, it's Unimodal's Skytran. Somebody has been doing Public Relations! It's part of an article on, "Eco-Tropolis." the "Green Megalopolis" of tomorrow. At least the U.S.A. and some of the world now know about one PRT system." [29]... Good luck, JDoorjam.... Avidor (talk) 16:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
