Talk:JDG-009X Devil Gundam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To whoever edited this to say Dark Gundam before, don't do that. The Japanese names are the canon ones and are what should be used-- Dark Gundam, is simply what the name was changed to for the dub to be politically correct.
Don't edit Gundam articles if your only experience with them is what you've seen on Toonami. Jtrainor 09:13, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move
JDG-009X Devil Gundam → JDG-009X Dark Gundam — This is a very peculiar case, IMHO. The original Japanese name of this Gundam is Devil (デビル deberu?), but it was never written in English as Devil Gundam. The official English name is Dark Gundam, as seen on Bandai's site. Google is not much help either, since "Devil Gundam" comes up with 11,100 hits, and "Dark Gundam" comes up with only 750 hits. But the official English name is still "Dark Gundam". I'm actually unsure myself which one this should be, because the Japanese name is based on an English word, but there's a different English word used for the official English name. Yes, it's confusing, and I'm sorry. Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 23:57, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

- Weak support as per nom. Unless the transliteration can be shown to have usage in English, then Cartoon Network's translation should be used however PC. Andrewa 06:33, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Discussion
Question: Do any of the official merchandise say "Dark Gundam"? I don't think I've seen the "Dark" name outside the Cartoon Network dub. My opinion is the transliteration of the Japanese name should be used unless the "Dark" name can be shown to be more common. --Polaron | Talk 04:12, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- Since the official Bandai English site is down (which says Dark Gundam), I looked for a screenshot, and found one on Ebay. The box for the action figure version clearly says "Dark Gundam". I can't find any model kits of it though, so I'm not sure if any were made, sine it's a large and irregular gundam for the most part. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 05:20, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

While this has been debated before I feel that we should use the Devil Gundam name rather than the dub name. Yes the official English name is Dark Gundam but the original name was Devil Gundam and we should reflect the fact that the name was changed due to business reasons and cultural differences.OptimusShr 01:37, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Moved this back, and added a section commenting on the name change in the article. Jtrainor 11:36, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
