[edit] Activities on Wikipedia

I'm interested in quite a number of different things, but much of it has a connection to the cultures, languages and histories of three different regions:

As I've become more active, I've noticed some tendencies to extreme nationalism on Wikipedia. I'd say all nationalities have some POV-users among them, but I've come up against three categories quite often

  • -Finnish users who insist on the Finnish language being the oldest and most original language in Europe and campaign for that theory at the expense of NPOV-sources.
  • -Polish and Russian users taking the opposite sides. The Poles trying to glorify everything done by Poles and dismiss any wrongdoing by Poland and the Russians trying to white wash the history of the USSR
  • -Balkan nationalists trying to glorify their own country. Closely connected to Greek nationalists trying to deny the Slav history in Macedonia
  • -English nationalists mainly editing Wikipedia to glorify the United Kingdom and who will delete any statement they consider negative, no matter how well it is sourced.

If I at times clash with any of these, it's not because I dislike any of their countries. On the contrary, I have some Finnish heritage myself, some of my best friends are Poles, my girlfriend is Russian and I've got a couple of good Greek friends. I dislike extreme nationalism and POV-pushing and that is the reason I may at times hold different opinions from users engaging in such behaviour.
