[edit] Re: Deletion: Christian Wrestling Federation
As i said in the articles deletion debate, the promotion was non-notable. There was no mention of the promotion in any of Shawn Michaels or other supposed notable wrestlers respective pages. For further information, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christian Wrestling Federation. --SteelersFan UK06 23:29, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- And stop spamming those who voted for its deletion. Darrenhusted 00:06, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- SteelersFan says it above better than I can. It's not enough for an article's subject to be verifiable (though it's certainly nice); it needs to be notable and despite the inclusion of some notable wrestlers the federation itself was not yet notable enough. The consensus from knowledgeable editors was unanimously in favor of deletion on those grounds. If and when it does become notable, the article can be recreated. Daniel Case 00:12, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Response to your questions about this AfD
This was the gist of the discussion:
- Non notable federation with only 307 Ghits, and was previously deleted on 14th February 2007 and tagged with a CSD G4 on 23rd February 2007, the result of which caused the adding of a "media exposure" section, but none of the statements within that section have references, and none have been added in the last five months. All the links through out the article to wrestlers are just youtube videos embedded on the Fed's homepage, and the Shawn Michaels link leads directly to a youtube link, which has been posted by the main editor. While I do not doubt that this federation exists, it is nothing more than a non notable backyard fed which happens to have attracted some Christian wrestlers to make cameos. ....
-
- That editor said, in so many words, that despite all the improvements and possible citations, none of that proved it was notable. Ghits means Google hits -- the Google test is a quick method or algorithm for measuring whether something is famous. You just put the phrase in quotes in the search box at[1], hit go, and count. Not all Ghits are relevant, so it's just a rough guess. Many editors at Wikipedia even discount the Google Test, but I like it. Hoiw many Ghits depedns on the subject. 300 is too low for a charity, but may be plenty for a Christian rock band. Articles that were previously deleted have a bad reputation, especially if it was recently deleted. There has not been enough time to figure out if the group or person has become famous since that time. 2 years is, frankly, not enough time. Notable is more than famous -- take a look at WP:N for some measures. Youtube and similar wikis are not considered proof that something is notable. You need to cite magazine, for example, a Christian Magazine with lots of subscribers, or a mainstream TV show.

- ::The sad thing is most of those things were on their website, including info about the HBO documentary, an indie documentary, the People magazine story and numerous others but they took them down for some reason. Jdblundell 15:50, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Note: This debate has been included in the list of Wrestling-related deletions.
-
- This means other people, who care about such topics, have been alerted that an article could be deleted.
- Delete Lacking Verifiability big time here, non-notable.
-
- This was the first vote in agreement to delete. See WP:V for what he means by lacking verifiability.
- Delete, per nom.
-
- This means soemone agress with the nomination.
- Attempts to gain notability through the addition of AJ & SM are not considered notability, as notability is not inherited.
-
- This is shorthand for saying that a person involved in a group may be notable, but not the group. Four famous people may go to one church, but the church does not become notable merely because they belong. The church or group has to be famous in itself, for example, by leading missions to Africa, or raising money for orhans with AIDS.
- The bottom line is that Wikpedians agree -- by consensus or as close as possible to unanimous -- about whether a topic is important enough to be in Wikipedia (WP). WP is a private foundation, unlike the rest of The Internet. Any words written here become property of the Foundation. Very many wonderful people and groups are not here, and that is not a bad thing. See WP:NOT for more guidelines. Bearian 01:03, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

- Sorry for all the typos, I banged this out quickly. Bearian 01:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Sorry. Not trying to spam anyone just wanted to understand how all this works. As you can see from my contributions I'm fairly new to actually editing Wikipedia and wanted to get a better understanding of why things were deleted. As per my understanding, the Christian Wrestling Federation is the first federation to do what they do - using wrestling to proselytize. There are a number of newer federations that are doing that now, including several that simply put on a wrestling show with top wrestlers who happen to be Christians and then bring out a preacher to give a Gospel message. There are or at least were references to the CWF on other pages. They may not be there anymore. But thanks for your input either way Jdblundell 15:45, 24 July 2007 (UTC
Oh and thanks for the clarifications Bearian it was a much better picture and explanation than I could gather elsewhere.
