JD Stuart (February 6, 1973-June 16, 1996) was the original bass player for 36 Crazyfists

John-David "J-D" Stuart was born in Oakland CA on February 6, 1973. He moved to Freeland, Washington as an infant, and came to Alaska in 1982 when his family moved to Adak Naval Base in the Aleutian Islands. Stuart bought his first guitar in 1984 and switched to bass guitar in 1986 after his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. He was in numerous bands from 1986 until the time of his death in June of 1996, and was recognized as an extraordinarily talented musician with a unique playing style that was widely imitated by musicians in other local bands.

Stuart was a founding member of his last band, 36 Crazyfists, and co-wrote much of the original music. He was on stage for the well-received performance by his band on June 13, 1996 when they opened for Primus, and stole the show. Stuart was killed by a drunk driver on June 16, 1996 as he was riding home from the celebration party some friends held for the band. He was 23 years old, a graduate of Dimond High School in Anchorage, Alaska, and a student at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. He was engaged to Brandy Smith. A tree was later planted in the Delaney Park Strip park in Anchorage, Alaska in memorium.
