[edit] Description
Jazz Jackrabbit is portrayed as an anthropomorphic hare with green fur, a red bandana, a blue backpack with red straps,a pair of orange wristbands, and blue eyes. "Hare" and "rabbit" are used interchangeably in the game. He comes from the planet Carrotus, and is usually referred to as Jazz. He is defined as a cross of Rambo and Bugs Bunny. According to the manual that came with the first Jazz Jackrabbit game, he weighs 90 pounds and stands 3 feet and 1 inch tall. His motto is "When you're a little rabbit, carry a BIG GUN!" He carries a gun known as the LFG-2000. The acronym, LFG possibly stands for "Large Fucking Gun" - a reference to Doom's BFG 9000. His favorite food is carrot pizza and his favorite book is Watership Down.
[edit] Games
[edit] Jazz Jackrabbit
The first Jazz Jackrabbit game was released in 1994. The shareware edition was extremely popular and the game was named Arcade Game of the Year by PC Format.Jazz had to rescue Eva Earlong who was kidnapped by his nemesis,Devan Shell.
[edit] Jazz Jackrabbit 2
A sequel was released in 1998. Despite moderate success in Europe, it was the first game Gathering of Developers, the U.S. publishers, ever lost money on. Jazz and his brother,Spaz team up to get back Eva's stolen wedding ring.
[edit] Jazz Jackrabbit 3
Jazz Jackrabbit 3 is an abortive project by World Tree Games. The game was cancelled in 2000 when Epic Games failed to find a publisher. The game's plot had Jazz entering Devan's dimensional machine (a modified version of the time machine used in Jazz Jackrabbit 2) into a three-dimensional Carrotus to save his children and remove any chaos Devan brought along the way.
[edit] References to Jazz
- Jazz, along with Eva and Devan made a cameo in One Must Fall: 2097, also by Epic, in single-player tournament mode. Each remote-piloted a fighting mech, named the Human Assisted Robot (HAR), that was suited to their individual personalities. This was in keeping with the Epic Megagames inter-universe cameo appearance/crossover theme also seen in Tyrian, which referred to their previous starship-piloting game Solar Winds, as well as a reference to One Must Fall: 2097.
- Bucky O' Hare has an appearance similar to Jazz.
[edit] Jazz Jackrabbit Advance
Jazz Jackrabbit Advance was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. It was controversial among Jazz Jackrabbit fans. Jazz's appearance was changed;no bandana,no backpack, and no wristbands. Eva Earlong and Devan Shell had disappeared from Jazz Jackrabbit Advance, and Jazz's gun was changed.
