Jazz apples are a new brand of apple from New Zealand. The cultivar is a cross between Gala and Braeburn apples, both originally grown in New Zealand.
The Jazz apple is sweet, crunchy and juicy. It has a firm, dense flesh and a rich sweet flavor. Tasting panels in Europe have revealed that consumers prefer the Jazz variety to both Braeburn and Gala apples. The Jazz brand is owned and used by Enza for the variety Scifresh.
The Jazz Apple is being grown in Southern New South Wales, France, and in Washington state in the US.
The Jazz Apple was successfully launched in Sydney, Australia, in April 2007. The launch event was held in The Green Room at The Quay Restaurant and was managed by Sonia Rendigs and her team from Melbourne PR firm Media Moguls.
[edit] Availability
Jazz apples are available across New Zealand, the United States, and in the UK.
In the UK, they are available in Marks & Spencer, Somerfield, Tesco, Waitrose and Morrisons. They may soon be grown in the UK too.
