[edit] Career

Jaafar's first experience in motor racing in the form of karts at the age of six. A year later, the Malaysian won his first kart race at the Morac-Asean Kart Festival in his home country. Jaafar was given a special allowance to gain an international license to compete in Formula BMW Asia when he was 14.[1]

Since then, Jaafar has won a total eleven kart race victories in both his home country Malaysia and in Belgium. In 2006, the young karter moved into the single seater category in the form of Formula Renault, Jaafar took part in the Asian series of the category. The Malaysian finished third in the championship, eighty–one points behind champion Pekka Saarinen.

In 2007, Jafaar competed in Formula BMW Asia.

After Round 22, and following receipt of a post-race scrutineering report, Race Stewards issued a Decision to exclude the cars of Jazeman Jaafar (MAS/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) and Jack Lemvard (THA/CIMB Team Qi-Meritus) for a technical infringement of the regulations. In view of the severity of the offence and the fact that the same team had contravened the technical regulations on an earlier occasion during the season, the decision also included the exclusion of CIMB Team Qi-Meritus from the Formula BMW Asia Series 2007.[citation needed]

The decision put Malaysian teenager Jazeman 2nd in the drivers' classification at the end of the season, just one point behind Ali. CIMB Team Qi-Meritus has submitted the official appeal on the disqualification of their drivers in the final Formula BMW Asia race and their exclusion from the team championship. The Federation Automobile of Sport China (FASC) which is the Chinese ASN affiliated to the FIA, has confirmed that they have received the letter of appeal from the team dated 5th November 2007.[citation needed]

31 January 2008, CIMB Team Qi-Meritus is pleased to announce that the appeals lodged with FASC against the decisions of the stewards at Zhuhai on 4 November, 2007 have now been determined in favour of the drivers and team.

The decision means that Jazeman will be handed back the drivers’ title, making him not only the first Malaysian but also the youngest to win the Series. Qi-Meritus will also get the constructors’ trophy.[citation needed]

He also made a new record as the youngest driver to take part in the 2007 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race at Sepang Circuit after taking the seat reserved for Tengku Djan Ley.[citation needed] He race in a Lotus Exige 300RR with Proton R3 Motorsports. Unfortunately, he had a limited outing of just 80 laps after their Lotus Exige 300RR retired with electrical problems.[citation needed]
