[edit] Criticism of declining quality
Hi. You added something to the "Criticism of declining quality" section of The Simpsons article. You need to add specific citation in order for it to be kept in the article. Which specific DVD commentary are we talking about? --Maitch 23:01, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Point taken. If memory serves me correctly, they mentioned it on either the third or fourth season commentaries. I'll plough through them to find particular instance and add appropriate citation.
- I have watched the commentaries for season 1-4 and I don't remember anything being said like that, but I could of course have forgotten it. Until then I've removed your text and moved it below. When you find your sources you can put the text back in the article: --Maitch 17:35, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- It might also be noted, as commented by the writing staff on several of the box set DVDs audio commentaries, that there was similar outcry about declining quality in the early years. After the generally down-to-earth first two seasons, when seasons three and four came along, with more ambitious storylines, some fans sited that the series had dropped in quality. Again, as noted on the DVD commentaries, many now regard the third and fourth seasons as the show's "golden era".

[edit] NPOV
Please (re)familiarize yourself with what "NPOV" means. "Non-NPOV" does not mean "from one person's point of view"; non-NPOV material is material that is biased rather than neutral -- whether one person's or a whole group's. --EEMeltonIV 00:50, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Exactly, **biased**. As in saying "this is dumb" or "that is good" or "this is better than that". It is a subtle but very different thing from listing a belief of some parties, *but awaits conformation from an official source* - hence the point of the [citation needed] tag in the first place! If it were worded (in this case) "Airwolf is not shown BECAUSE xxxxx", *that* would be POV. It is a very grey area but there IS a difference! =)
- I've been following this, and have to say I kinda see both sides. Wikipedia should be kept for fact, but at the same time, it’s a very blurred area where fact becomes personal comment. I personally think that it is okay to mention that some people have certain beliefs, as long as it is cited correctly (or at least acknowledged that it needs citation). Wording is also very important. For example, saying "Some people believe man didn't land on the moon" is very different from saying "I believe man didn’t land on the moon". I think this particular case was worded adequately enough to be left in the article. DukeBoy78 03:19, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, I asked a question about one of your additions to the article (which I removed); if you'd like to comment on it, it's at Talk:The Professionals (TV series). Fourohfour 13:07, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Press Gang
Hello. Thanks for your work developing the Press Gang article. When you add facts (such as here), could you please remember to add a citation. The paragraph about "Deadline" can be sourced with one of the existing sources, but without a citation would fail the GA nomination. Cheers. The JPStalk to me 17:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- You're quite right, I was looking for place to site, as the info came from old e-mailing list. Jay Firestorm 22:11, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Images
Hi. Again, my thanks for your work. In addition to the source, could you please provide a fair use rationale when you're uploading fair use images.
Just so you know, I wouldn't spend too much effort uploading these. I think the way things are going, screenshots in lists will be removed later in the year. They are considered by many (including me) not to be fair use. They are not adding anything of educational value to the list -- it's just there to look pretty. e.g. what does an image of a chalk outline of a body give us that the episode summary doesn't?
I'm not going to remove them from the PG list because other lists have images. Just a warning, though... it won't be long before it becomes policy, and you'll see all your hard work (capturing the images) deleted. The JPStalk to me 22:07, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Glad it's appreciated. I know it's grey line of how many captures are accepted, but numerous other TV shows have them, so I thought we'd try it and see how long they stay ;) Jay Firestorm 22:11, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Cool. Yeah, as long as you're not disappointed when (or if) they have to be removed. It can be heartbreaking to see a day's work disappear. Last year one user spent hours upon hours uploading magazine covers without realising that it wasn't fair use. He was so unhappy that he turned into a vandal and still leaves harsh personal attacks messages on my talk page every few weeks -- 7 months later!!! The JPStalk to me 22:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- Jay, I must inform you in good faith that you are being mislead (and images in LOEs are unlikely to disappear any time soon) - there has been tons of discussion regarding fair use images in lists (Wikipedia talk:Fair use/Fair use images in lists), the general consensus is that they are perfectly acceptable as long as they are used within a good amount of text that the image is providing critical commentary on, they must also be backed up with a fair use rationale explaining why they are fair use, if you would like I will happily help you with your fair use rationales so you may reintegrate your screen captures. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 16:23, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- As much as the fanboys insist upon having pretty pictures to accompany a very limited amount of writing, they are very rarely fair use. They are not providing critical commentary. The images have to provide something the text doesn't. Unfortunately there are more teen fanboys than not. The JPStalk to me 16:39, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Fair point, but maybe you'd like to tell that to the numerous other episode listings on Wikipedia (check out any of the Star Trek series, for example, or any show of such nature). They all get away with it; I just wanted to represent our show a little more. The pictures don't necessarily have to illustrate something that the text doesn't; they can also summarise the episode. I'll read up on my fair use, as it is a very blurred line at the moment, In fairness, I was just going with what other show's pages get away with =) Jay Firestorm 18:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Real Ghostbusters
I noticed your edits to the article and I'd like to extend my thanks and praise on that... future editors may not see the relevance but it's nice seeing a detailed layout of who showed the cartoon over here... many fond memories of watching it when it was on Motor Mouth and Ghost Train... there's even some snippets of those two shows on my original television recordings of the cartoon... so thanks for the burst of nostalgia and for helping develop the article :) .-Kingpin1055 15:44, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Mr T BA.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mr T BA.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lee Ross Press Gang.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Lee Ross Press Gang.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Jetto.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Jetto.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Repton Infinity Robbo.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Repton Infinity Robbo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mangojuicetalk 15:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
