El Barrio the Musical

El Barrio is an urban tale portraying the immigrant's life in a new city, their ambitions, struggles and identity, celebrating the fusion of Latin rhythms with Salsa dance and live percussion. El Barrio's concept and choreography are by Iris De Brito: a product of her own immigrant circumstances, Iris de Brito has acquired a real diverse cultural background, an experience shared by many in the modern world. Her observations of immigrant life and social patterns combined with dance training led her to write about this very current subject. Be it in Los Angeles, London, Paris or Rome, some of the scenes could be relevant in all those places. El Barrio, an authentic and original salsa show of more than an hour, was first performed in London in June 2006 @ Jackson Lane Theatre (Highgate) where it completely sold out more than 900 seats. El Barrio is on tracks to receive further funding for a UK Tour in summer 2008.
