[edit] Net Worth

This article doesn't include a statement about Jay-Z's net worth. According to the Panache Report, Jay-Z is the richest hip-hop artist, reaching a total of US$ 547 million for the year 2007. He regains this title, which was taken by Sean Combs for the year 2006. Here's the reference...

[edit] Jay-Z Launching Label With Apple

I know this is an old rumor but BoyGeniusReport.com—good friend of Just Blaze—is reporting that Jay and apple have reached an agreement. The announcement will alledgedly be made at Macworld on Jan. 14th. Nothing official though.[2][3] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bren202 (talkcontribs) 03:34, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Big Daddy Kane

Why is there nothing in this article mentioning Jay-Z's relationship with BDK? The man was very influential in Jay's career. Nothing at all in his early years about being BDK's protege. This article is below a B. 71.188.95.90 (talk) 02:46, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

If you have the sources to back it up, add it. --Soetermans (talk) 17:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Blueprint 3?

There is a new Jay-z track floating around called "Aint I" and in the background he says Blueprint 3. does that means an LP for 2008? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.110.126.169 (talk) 16:23, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

It's been said by many that Ain't I is an old track, plus the writer didn't cite a source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.211.190.171 (talk) 04:38, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree. During the whole backround of the song, you hear him say this "New Jay-Z", "Off that Blueprint 3." Does that really make sense, but then again that sounds like Jay-Z. I think that we could create a page because there is a resonable amount of proof. More proof than half the pages for upcoming albums on wiki so far anyway.--Jmilisc9 (talk) 19:15, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Beware the Boys, Bin Laden & Reagan

From the Black Album section: "Re-released as "Beware of the Boys", the East-West hip-hop fusion track charted in North America. It was notable for Jay-Z's condemnation of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and laying some of the blame on the 9/11 attacks on the foreign policy of Ronald Reagan."

The song does no such thing. The lyrics are: "Before Bin Laden got Manhattan to blow / Before Ronald Reagan got Manhattan to blow". It seems to be an obvious reference to Reagan-era cocaine use in New York. If it does indicate laying the blame on Reagan, it can't possibly be attributed to the song. Did Jay-Z mention this in an interview? A citation is needed. The-bus (talk) 04:59, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blueprint is not coming

That songs on the DJ Clue album was a lost over from a sessions for Timberlands last album. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.10.85.218 (talk) 18:04, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Swagger Jacking

I think it should be noted in the controversy section that Jay-Z is known for stealing other artishellots lyrics, such as c-poppa. [4] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.71.145.155 (talk) 05:03, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

First, write new discussion at the bottom of the page. Second, that is one source by another rapper. That's not gonna do it for being in the article. --Soetermans (talk) 17:43, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Picture

The picture is in somewhat low-quality and it's stretched. Maybe someone can Photoshop it to slim it up to make it look good.

[edit] NPOV dispute

I tagged this as non-neutral because it seems to me to have a very positive slant to it. Examples:

  • He is one of the most financially successful hip-hop artists and entrepreneurs in America. Jay-Z is the most successful example of the growing power of hip-hop. He has sold a total of 33 million copies worldwide.
  • Known for his flow and blending of street and popular style, he can compose lyrics without the use of pen and paper. His critically acclaimed album The Blueprint was written in only two days.
  • He also relied more on flow and brilliant wordplay, and he continued his penchant for mining beats from the popular producers of the day such as Swizz Beatz, an upstart in-house producer for Ruff Ryders, and Timbaland.
  • Through his lyricism, he was able to retain respect from some of his die-hard fans.

In addition, the Controversy section is noticably sparse and could use some expansion. -DMurphy (talk) 19:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Regardless of how positive it may seem, these are mainly facts, not opinions.

  • 1) He is the most financially successful rapper to date.
  • 2) He states in several interviews, that he does not write songs the best rapper alive

compose the entire album

  • 4) Meh, that is slanted. Although he does have die hard fans.
  • 5) His controversy section can be more detailed, and it is missing quite a bit of information. But its hard to pin point and state facts based on celebrity gossip and non-researched blog entries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.110.174.133 (talk) 20:31, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
In my opinion the tag should not be there. If you would like to edit the article everyone would welcome such edits so long as the edits are verifiable. However it sounds to me that you dislike this person due to your need to erase positives and expand the criticism section. Be that as it may, please refer to WP:CRITICISM before doing so. Also be sure to have the proper reliable sources when adding anything. Monkeytheboy (talk) 13:34, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

My thoughts: who ever put the tag in the first place and started this whole shindig could've just fixed the article him or herself. Be BOLD!. --Soetermans (talk) 12:31, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
