Prior Lionsgate, Faires spent 15 years building his label and publishing businesses Mammoth Records and BNYMusic. He continues to work closely with key Mammoth songwriters and acquired blues catalog Black Top (including songs by Buckwheat Zydeco and Solomon Burke) and many of the works of David Bowie. Faires built Mammoth from scratch outside of the musical epicenters of LA, NY and Nashville. Selling nearly 100 million dollars worth of recorded music, he had the only alternative independent label before 2006 to take two artists platinum in Seven Mary Three and the Squirrel Nut Zippers. After placing 3 acts in the top 3 of MTV's charts, he sold the label to The Walt Disney company for over 40 times the label's initial investment. Shortly after, he executive produced Free Tibet in conjunction with the Beastie Boys, featuring iconic acts such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine.

[edit] Education

Faires earned a Bachelors degree with Honors from The University of the South where he was Young Alumnus of the Year in 2000 and will begin serving on the University's Board of Trustees in October. He received his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University where he gave the keynote address at the inauguration of their Center for Entrepreneurship in 2006. He sits on the board of the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP).
