Jay Carty

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jay J. Carty Jr. (born July 4, 1941) is a retired American basketball player.

He played collegiately for the Oregon State University. He was selected by the St. Louis Hawks in the 6th round (48th pick overall) of the 1962 NBA Draft. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers (1968-69) in the NBA for 28 games. After graduating from Oregon State University, he was drafted in the 6th round of the 1962 NBA draft by the St. Louis Hawks. Instead of playing in the NBA, he chose to work alongside the legend John Wooden at UCLA. While he was there, he spent time working with soon-to-be superstar Lew Alcindor or as we know him Kareem Abdul Jabbar, the current man with the most points scored in a career in the NBA. He should be credited with developing Kareem Abdul Jabbar's "hook shot". Jay Carty currently lives in California with his wife and kids and lately has published some books with past sports heroes like "Coach Wooden One-on-One", "Darrel Waltrip", and other books. In 1982, Jay Carty also started a christian ministries program called Yes!Ministries dedicated to helping people accept Jesus Christ into their lives.
