Both the generic name (based on the classical name, Jaxartes, for the Syr Darya river of Central Asia) and the specific epithet of the type species (aralensis, referring to the Aral Sea, place the genus in Central Asia rather than China. http://www.users.qwest.net/~jstweet1/lambeosaurinae.htm specifically places it in Kazakhstan. Whether any fossils have been found in China is not clear; the description of the second species as dubious is ambiguous as to meaning. Lavateraguy 16:13, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the addition. The relevant papers seem to be:
  • Riabinin (1937). "The discovery of crested dinosaurs in the Upper Cretaceous Beds of South Kazakhstan." Priroda 9:91
  • Wu, S. (1973). "A fossil of Jaxartosaurus found from Xinjiang." Vertebrata Palasiatica 11 217-218
These would indicate a range of both Kazakhstan and China, but I do not have either of these papers. Firsfron of Ronchester 16:42, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
