Illegal A300 pic (COPYRIGHT VIOLATION)

I refer to image:Libyan_Arab_Airlines.jpg
Why did you waste your time uploading an illegal picture! I've just noticed the pic uploaded by you onto the Airbus A300 article (but now removed) of a Libyan Arab Airlines A300.
You have told a lie about that pic because you say it is Public Domain. No, it was taken by Magnus Trippler, is copyright and most definitely not PD. Also you have dishonestly clipped off the very clear copyright notice that all a.net pics have. (I only had to put the registration of TS-IAX into airliners.net and there it is!) The pic has been removed.
Would someone else (who knows how) delete it off WP, please - Adrian Pingstone 23:00, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Libyan deletions

Don't worry, we all make mistakes sometimes. Not everyone realises that pics off the net are usually copyright. I'm off to work now so can't reply at length just now but I will later in the day. I haven't had any e-mail from you. Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone 08:32, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Hall Monitor

I have recently been blocked from using wikipedia by the user 'Hall Monitor'. If there are any administrators who can unblock me I ask them to do so, as I have recently broken NONE of the Wiki guidelines. I have also rid Wikipedia of all illegal images I uploaded unaware of copyright laws. Whether or not you've noticed there are very few Libyan wikipedia users and I think it vital to keep the community vibrant and diverse, thus ensuring a wide selection of material related to international articles. I thouroughly enjoy using wikipedia and editing articles so please unblock me. This insane, so called "Hall Monitor" has also taken it upon himself/herself to block my entire university from editing articles. Thank you Jaw101ie 15:41, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Photo 988158 (A320)

Thanks for your request for help, concerning deletion. However I notice a difference between what you say Thierry released it under (GFDL) and what the Pic Description Page on Commons says (Public Domain).

This is what you tell me on my talk page:
The image of the Libyan A320 uploaded by the photographer Thierry Deutsch, Image:TsinjHLLT020106.jpg, is going to be deleted. I asked permission for him to upload the image and he agreed. He uploadedit himself with his user account and released it under GFDL. Why is it being deleted. I assure you it is LEGAL! Please help, Jaw101ie 19:19, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

and this is what Commons says:
Libyan Arab Airlines A320-200 in Tripoli International Airport (TIP/HLLT). Photographed by Thierry Deutsch in January 2006 and released to the public domain. http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0988158/L/

I will need to understand which is correct (GDFL or Public Domain) if I am to help you - Adrian Pingstone 20:01, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:King Senzangakhona Stadium.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:King Senzangakhona Stadium.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Libya national football team

Hi, check the image of this link. If it is correct, I will upload it to Wikipedia. Regards, Carioca 02:21, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I updated Libya's kits. Is it correct? Regards, Carioca 19:25, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
I tried to fix. I need your opinion. Carioca 00:19, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
This color difference seems to be caused by an Internet Explorer bug. In Mozilla this kind of bug doesn't occur. The bug is actually in the arms and short, and not in the shirt. For some unknown reason, the Internet Explorer doesn't render correctly Wikipedia's use of image transparency (this was also the reason why the previous version of Libya's home shirt I uploaded looked blue in your computer). See this image, of the Libya national football team article in Mozila. Regards, Carioca 21:13, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Afriaqua.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Afriaqua.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:04, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi from Adrian. I've added a Public Domain tag to the Afriaqua pic, as you requested. I decided this was the correct tag by going to the Image Description Page on the German Wiki where I could just about read that it says the pic is Public Domain. The correct tag for a PD pic is {{PD-user|Lucien Scranz}} so that's what I've added. Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone 08:54, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Libya

Thanks for your message. I've had a preliminary look and made a few small changes. I'll continue to think about it. --Guinnog 13:34, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Using some of your references as examples:

  • 4. The Brunei Gallery, SOAS, University of London. Scenes from Libya. Accessed July 15, 2006.

There are various different bibliography styles you can choose from, but your reference info should show all the components, such as author, date, etc.

Sandy 15:54, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

The refs aren't completely correct yet (see examples above), and I'd still like to see a thorough copy edit, and a more neutral tone. Good luck, Sandy 00:37, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
I don't recommend looking at older FAs, or even FAs from a month ago: standards have changed, articles deteriorate, and references are more important now than they used to be. Sandy 01:00, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Try not to worry too much, and get some sleep :-) If it doesn't make FA this time, you can still fix things, and come back another day. It's not a judgement -- try not to stress over a star :-) Sandy 01:16, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

MUCH better on the references: yes, the first 10 look good. You asked me look at history: I still see some prose issues:

  • It was tThe Greeks that conquered Eastern Libya when, according to tradition, ...

What is the source for the entire Romans as conquerers paragraph? What is the source for the Arabs as conquerers paragraph?

More work to do, but you're headed in the right direction! Sandy 03:25, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm not entirely certain on the answers to your question. No, not everyone has to support, but you have to have mostly support. I'm not sure if there is a threshhold you have to meet (60%, 80% support?). But, if you have MOSTLY support, and no major problems it gets promoted even if there are some objects. HTH, Sandy 00:14, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Libya FAC

I changed to support for Libya. While you have lots of refs and Culture/Demographics/Geography have main articles, I can see where the one guy is coming from on refs in those sections as they have only one each. You may want to add 1-2 more in each of those sections. Rlevse 22:11, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the note: I have a very busy afternoon, but I'll look at the article again later tonight. Regards, Sandy 19:24, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
I can see you're working very hard. You can get there ! I'm not sure the article is quite ready for Tony's finesse, though. He gets a LOT of requests for help with copy edits, so it will help if you have things really tightened up before you ask him to comb through it. Get the refs really tightened up, ask some others to go through it thoroughly, and approach Tony when you're really sure it's closer to ready. Remember, you can always come back for another FAC anytime, if you don't make it this time! Sandy 00:44, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Amazigh

Who is ‘the majority of people’? I think that anyone who can actually read Tifinagh and has Internet access is likely to have the right font (direct link, in case you can’t read French). Plain text is almost always better than an image—it’s easy to copy and paste, it won’t look ugly if the user has a background different from the default and it won’t look too small/too large if the user’s font size is not the same as yours. If it’s still a problem, though, how about an SVG image? That way, it will at least not have compression artifacts. —xyzzyn 18:13, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Response to Libya

Sorry I didn't get this back to you in time, and congratulations on having the article reach feature status. However, I did reread the article and comment page and noticed that the majority of the complaints seemed to address grammatical issues. Taking that into account, I reread and attempted to identify anything that I might think anyone might be able to object to. I want to make it clear that I myself do not necessarily consider these points all valid, simply that they could be made. And, clearly, as the article has achieved feature article status, you are free to ignore them all.

1) paragraph 2 of "History" starts with the phrase "The land now known as modern Libya..." It might be possible to drop the "now" here.

2) In line 2 of the next paragraph, it might be possible to substitue "when" for "where" in "where the merchants of Tyre..."

3) Five lines later you specify Phoenicia was the "greatest of the overseas Phoenician colonies." All the Phoenician colonies were overseas; the word might be considered redundant.

4) Line 2 of the next paragraph contains the statement that the people of Thera were commanded by the Oracle to do something. This seems to me contrary to the fact that the Oracle is historically known to have spoken in rather vague phrases which were interpreted by the Oracle's interpreter more specifically. A minor point, but clarification might be called for.

5) A sentence break after the word "command" starting line three of the second following paragraph might be considered.

6) In line 2 of the next paragraph, it might help if it were specified how the new provinces related to the previous areas of these names. You might also wish to specificy whether Idris were the Emir of the existing government or maybe "hereditary."

7) same paragraph: might change the final sentence to indicate who made the proclamation.

8) 2 paragraphs later: The sentence started "The reason for this was" could be rewritten to stress that Sayyid had even less power as King earlier in the sentence, maybe something like "Sayyid quickly found that he had substantially less power as the new King than he had earlier had as a mere Prince".

9) later same paragraph: Maybe indicate stated reason for Sayyid being placed under house arrest.

10) The names of some of the cities in the list do not of municipalities are not the same spellings as those on the map in "Geography" section. This might confuse people.

11) in paragraph beginning "In 1991...": some sort of phrasing to indicate in the article the relevance of UTA 772 might be appreciated. Something like "Pan Am 103 and the similar UTA 772..."

12) the paragraph on the Gebir Kebir plateau could be dropped and put in some other article, as it is entirely in Egypt.

13) The word "somewhat" is used twice in the second paragraph of "religion." Substitution of a synonym in one place might help.

That's about it, really.

Again, congratulations on having your article promoted to feature article status and thanks for all the effort you have individually given to get it to reach that point. Badbilltucker 13:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello! As you're a Wikipedian interested in African topics, I'm writing to notify you that the Maraba Coffee article is now a 'Featured Article Candidate'. Please feel free to evaluate the article and write your support or opposition at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. Thanks — SteveRwanda 15:06, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Evening Jaw101ie - just interested to know your current take on the Maraba Coffee article. Quite a lot of work has been done by various editors (including yourself) to try to address the prose issues you felt were necessary. The 'promotional tone' problem has been looked at too. It seems there is still an issue over the length of the lead, but in my opinion (and this has undergone some work too) it sums up the contents of the article quite well, and any further shortening will remove potentially interesting info for people who only read the lead. For what it's worth I've had a chat with BanyanTree (who is an experienced Wikipedian, and something of a mentor for me) about this and he is generally in agreement that it's OK as it stands (see User talk:BanyanTree#Maraba (lead)).
Anyway, please have another look if you have a spare moment and let me know / fix any other points you think are not up to scratch. Cheers — SteveRwanda 16:29, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Info needed on Yusuf Karamanli

Thanks for your message I received it and signed as a member in the Libya Wikiproject. Anyhow I just would like to tell you and all other members in the project that the articles on Yusuf Karamanli and Barbary Wars do not seem to be really neutral. They are diffeerent from any thing I've ever heard about the subject. Especially the claim that Karamanlis supported piracy (on US ships). I couldn't find enough info on the subject to start making changes, my main source is online info which is doesn't give much details apart from the contested articles themselves. May be someone else is in a better position to make the necessary changes. Best regards. Ahmed Elnagar 21:21, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Libyan Airways

I noticed your revert war on Libyan Arab Airways. The redirect does seem to be valid, but you are doing this all wrong. You should have moved the page to the new name, instead of recreating the page. now you have lost it's entire history. I'm going to ask for the new name to be speedy deleted, so the old page can be MOVED. I'll keep a list of changes you made and they can be reapplied once the move is made TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 19:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

You can find information about the rename/move process in Mediawiki here
I have moved the page, you can reapply your changes if you want. I have a copy of your old work at User:TheDJ/Sandbox. If you choose edit and copy paste the parts in question to the new page, all will be fine again TheDJ (talkcontribsWikiProject Television) 18:07, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

You cannot move the page Lybian Arab Airlines destinations, because the place you want to move it to is already an existing page. Libyan Airways destinations... For the official move to work, you first need to get the destination deleted, which only an administrator can do. The easiest way to do this is by adding {{db-move|Libyan Arab Airlines destinations}} to the Libyan Airways destinations-page. When you save that, add a description to the page explaining, that you are trying to fix an incorrect move. Usually within a day, the page will be deleted and you can move the page properly. Hi!

I notice that you added a comment to the article on Libyan Airways stating that they are considering "Lyons" as a European destintion. The wiki page you've linked to doesn't have any entries for a "Lyons" in Europe, but there are several in USA. Which city/town do you mean? Can you please link it to the appropriate page, and not a redirect page. Thanks. Dontdoit 05:25, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Please do not upload images in the GIF format

Hello and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you've uploaded a number of images in the GIF format. In the future, please save GIF images in the PNG format before converting (see Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload). PNG images almost always have a smaller file size, which decreases the amount of time they take to load. There are a bunch of other advantages to the PNG format such as lossless compression that you can read about on its Wikipedia article. —Remember the dot (t) 22:08, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Peter cook architect.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Peter cook architect.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 18:12, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:32, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:04mascot.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:04mascot.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Unspecified source for Image:04mascot.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:04mascot.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:03, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sd-logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sd-logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Speedy deletion of Image:Afriqiyah timetable.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:Afriqiyah timetable.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD i7.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Russavia 20:59, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
