Javier Moreno Varela is a Spanish footballer, who currently plays for Córdoba CF, the club he started his career with. During his career he had short spells in Italy and England. Javi Moreno has played five games for Spain, scoring one goal. Moreno first shot to prominence during his spell with Alaves in Spain after playing a pivotal role in their run to the UEFA Cup final of 2001. Along the way Alaves defeated the likes of Gaziantepspor, Lillestrom, Rosenborg, Inter Milan, fellow La Liga club Rayo Vallecano and Kaiserslautern before going down bravely 4-5 to Liverpool with Moreno bagging himself two goals in three minutes. His performances and goals especially in the competition as well as in La Liga convinced AC Milan to buy him amid attention from Europe's other elite clubs. The striker however struggled in Serie A and after one season returned to Spain to join Atlético Madrid. With goals hard to come by, a loan move to Bolton ensued but after eight goalless appearances for "The Trotters", Moreno found himself on the move again, this time to Real Zaragoza. Javi Moreno refound his goalscoring form for Córdoba, helping the club to promotion to the Segunda División, finishing league's topscorer with 24 goals in 32 appearances.
