On April 17, 1946, during an examination of possible Japanese war crimes against Australian service personnel being handled near Bogor, Indonesia, Squadron Leader Frederick George Birchall, Officer in Charge, Australian War Crimes, Hector Murdoch McDonald, Flight Lieutenant Hector Murdoch McDonald also of War Crimes and Captain Alastair Norman Mackenzie, Australian Comforts Unit, were murdered.
