Dr. Peter Johnsen was appointed Provost of Bradley University after an extensive candidate search. He will begin his responsibilities in early July 2006. Dr. Johnsen will head the positions of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Prior to coming to Bradley Dr. Johnsen has had a plethora of previous experience. He has served as Research Leader of the Food Flavor Quality Research Unit at the Southern Regional Research Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He has over 60 research papers in his name, as well as contributions to numerous technical books, and he has recieved two patents. Before coming to Bradley, Dr. Johnsen worked at the USDA Agricultural Research Service since 1986. [1]
[edit] Education/Previous Academic Positions
Dr. Johnsen received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was Assistant & then became Associate Member at the Monell Chemical Senses Center of University of Pennsylvania in which he taught in the Department of Biology & College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition, Dr. Johnsen has been a visiting scientist at the University of Bonn in Germany. He also received an Olin Fellowship to work at the University of Oslo in Norway.

In 1999, Dr. Johnsen was presented with the rank of Meritorious Executive by the President. In 2000, he was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture & Forestry. [2] In 2003, he was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering. [3] In 2004, he was selected as Federal Laboratory Director of the Year.

Dr. Johnsen is currently active in Community affairs. He also serves on the following boards:
- Central Illinois Boy Scouts of America
- Peoria NEXT
- Methodist Hospital
- Economic Development Council for Central Illinois
The Peoria NEXT Innovation Center will directly facilitate the commercialization of new technologies for economic development throughout the region. The Innovation Center is part of an overall strategy to facilitate the development of an emerging sector of the Central Illinois economy. With over $1 billion of research being conducted in the region each year, this project makes sense for the future of our community,” says Jim McConoughey, President/CEO, The Heartland Partnership. “Essentially, this facility is the physical representation of our emerging knowledge/innovation economy, and will serve as a catalyst for other development activities not only in Renaissance Park, but throughout the region,” says McConoughey. “As the companies that locate within this facility mature and graduate, we can expect to see up to 1,200 jobs created over the next 8 years.
