Jasper or Jesper (Nordic form) is a male's given name. It is a Dutch and German variant of the Persian Casper. According to the Biblical tradition Casper (Persian 'treasurer' ) is the name of one of the "Three Kings," who presented Christ gifts. Casper gave gold. Its Biblical reference led to its adoption as an English name in the 17th Century.
The mineral jasper is derived from this name.
