Jason Wilde, is an American sportswriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin born in 1972. He graduated from Martin Luther High School in Greendale, Wisconsin in 1990. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin and graduated in 1994 with a B.A. in Journalism. [1]
Wilde is the Green Bay Packers beat writer for the Wisconsin State Journal. [2] Wilde is an award-winning sports writer, having won two Associated Press Sports Editors awards, several Wisconsin Newspaper Association awards and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association sportswriter of the year.[1] Wilde was also recently named the 2007 National Sportswriter of the year for the second time. Wilde is also the Green Bay Packers insider for WAUK 540 ESPN, appearing on the "D-List" and "World's Greatest Sports Talk Show with Steve True." [3] Wilde also gives Green Bay Packers updates to the Dave and Carole morning show on 96.5 FM WKLH in Milwaukee.[1] Wilde is also a frequent contributor to ESPN's First Take. Wilde also writes sports pieces for OnMilwaukee.com.[3]
Wilde is widely regarded for his feel-good, human-side pieces. He is not the typical X's and O's type sportwriter. He relates to most everyday fans. Unlike most Green Bay Packers reporters he has had a somewhat rocky relationship with retired quarterback Brett Favre. He dislikes everything about the NFL Draft coverage.

[edit] Flirtation with Oregon/Washington
In the summer of 2007, On WAUK 540 ESPN, Wilde was open about being close to leaving the Wisconsin State Journal for a job covering University of Oregon athletics for the Eugene Register-Guard. Wilde is friends with former Washington State University men's basketball coach and former University of Wisconsin coach Dick Bennett. Wilde ultimately decided to remain with the Wisconsin State Journal and the Green Bay Packers beat.
[edit] Relationship with Brett Favre
Unlike most Green Bay Packers reporters he has had an up-and-down relationship with retired quarterback Brett Favre. Favre, however, noted after his retirement news conference that Wilde was not present, stating, "That's too bad (he (Jason) wasn't here). He would've enjoyed all the crying."
[edit] Love of the Theater
A fan of musical theater, Jason attends an average of 1-2 major productions per month, either making the trip to Chicago or Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On several occasions he has mentioned "Wicked" as his favorite musical, followed closely by "Mama Mia". Legend also has it that Jason once turned down Bruce Springsteen tickets to attend Michael Flatley's "Lord of the Dance". Currently, Wilde! - The Musical, is in pre-production with a projected opening in Kaukauna early spring 2009. Wilde will be supported in this endeavor by co-star Kevin Brandt, KB from WKLH.
