Jason Shackell (born 27 September 1983 in Stevenage, England) is an English footballer. He is a central defender and plays for Norwich City.

Shackell is a product of the youth academy at Norwich City. He made his debut for the first team on 5 April 2003 in a league match at Derby County, when he played at left-back following an injury to Adam Drury. Although Shackell's preferred - and best - position is central defender, his first few appearances would be at left-back when Drury was either injured or suspended.

Shackell started his first match in English football's top division on 28 February 2005 in a home game against Manchester City. Although Norwich lost 3-2, Shackell acquitted himself well and kept his place in the centre of defence for the remainder of the season. Although the campaign would end with Norwich being relegated from the Premiership, Shackell's ability, confidence and influence on his team-mates led many supporters to see him as a future Norwich captain.

The scene was set for Shackell to continue his progress in the 2005-06 season. However, a pre-season illness and a subsequent run of injuries limited him to only a handful of matches during that campaign. He signed a new 3 year contract in the summer of 2006 despite undergoing another ankle operation, and so remained a part of the club's future.

Shackell scored his first goal for Norwich on 17 October 2006 against Birmingham City, proving to be the winning goal. He scored two further goals that season, against Preston North End and Luton Town. He has not yet scored at Norwich's home, Carrow Road.

At the end of the 2006-07 season, Shackell came third in the voting for Norwich City player of the year. On 1 August, after Shackell had captained the side in a pre-season friendly against West Ham, City manager Peter Grant confirmed that Shackell would be team captain for the 2007-08 season.

Shackell was sent off for the first time in his career on 22 September 2007 in a 2-0 defeat at Wolves. On 2 October 2007 he signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at Carrow Road until 2010.

In December 2007, Shackell lost the captaincy when new manager Glenn Roeder appointed Mark Fotheringham as captain.
